Ever since the latest BBM update, my battery has not lasted me the whole day. At best I am getting 5-6 hrs before battery is drained. According to Blackberry Device Monitor, BBM is using up 50%+ of the battery life. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have added a screen shot of the BlackBerry Device Monitor report of my phone.

    Hi si_chindo,
can you please state how many (group) chats you have currently running ?
I had similar problem (yet in smaller proportion) and sorted it out by cleaning out some of my long lasting group chats. I restricted history to the past 3 days - 1 week (3 dots at the bottom right, history then choose your history length).
I believe the battery drain will also go down as the history caching settles down, I noticed there was a lot of "redraw" at first, making it barely possible to browse a group chat with many (50+) users and massive amount of posts history.

    Hope it helps,
    Cheers

I have 5 group chats currently going. I also subscribe to a lot of BBM channels (I wonder if that kills the battery as well).

I am going to change my chat history is what u recommend. I'll see what happens.

Not noticing any difference. Device monitor still saying that bbm is taking the biggest percentage of my batt life.

Also from full device monitor says I only have 6 hrs left.

Yep, I hit that occasionally as well. BBM hits 40% battery on some days but it is usually < 1%. With very little BBM activity on either day.

Followed Superfly's instruction. Basically I made group history to 1 day only and disabled chat history on BBM. This seems to have solved the BBM battery issue. Give it a shot and see if it'll work for you.

Took a day to get everything settled in and back to normal.

P.S. Thanks Superfly for ur suggestion.

I've got a Q5. I don't use BBM (no contacts, no chats and no channels) and it eating 40% of the battery.

Is it possible to delete or disable this app?

Cool ! glad it helped. I believe you can set it back selectively where you need longer history now.

Well, no. But it shouldn't drain as you describe it.
Have you connected/created your BBID ?

Edit: hey, welcome to the CrackBerry community, BTW !!!

Got exactly the same problem on my wife's Q10. No contacts in BBM, but battery running flat at random. Normally overnight which is even more annoying.

Same problem here on my Z10. Battery drains, and phone is warm when bbm has been used. Have to restart phone to get back to normal. Have emailed support twice in the last month, but haven't yet had a reply.

Hi there, Has anyone had any luck resolving this?

My other half's Q10 is sucking between 40% and 160% (I know… how can it possibly be doing that? but that's how it is reading right now with 49% CPU back to front photo attached) of his battery, making it last less than a day.

I've deleted all chats (and there is in fact only me as a contact!) and he's not subscribed to any channels.

He has Facebook, but all locations stuff is disabled, and he has a blackberry ID.

It worked perfectly until about 3 weeks ago which, oddly, is when we returned from holidays. But I have put all the changes back.

The software is all up to date and running 10.2.1.2977

Any suggestions before we dump it?

    Thanks!

Hi all, I am also having problems with BBM draining my Q10 battery life. Have had the Q10 for a week; the battery has been really good over this time, however the past few days have a been a BIG problem! BBM is chewing up up to 40% of my battery even though I only have 2 contacts and 1 group chat! I only send a few messages through BBM in a given day, so the 40% battery usage does not make sense!

My battery is literally dropping off at about 1% every few minutes even when idle, and the battery monitor is attributing this to BBM. :/

Can anyone help me out with this? Anyone's help would be very much appreciated!

People suggest that we reload the OS using BlackBerry link, or use an autoloader to install a different BBM version.

My battery seems to have come good. Here is what I have changed. I can't pinpoint what exactly helped it, but the battery has definitely returned to its old self. I hope this helps at least someone out there

    Changes:
    - let it run to 0%, took the battery out so it could cool down and then put it back in and charged to 100%

    - changed the network settings to 2G/3G

Suffer from the same problem on a Z10. Even though I barely use BBM.
It came suddenly. Reboot helps for a while, then it starts again.
The phone is more or less a brick right now
