Does anyone have any insight as to why BB LINK takes so long to load? Why does it not load in the background? Any help/tips much appreciated.

because its the worst piece of software RIM has ever released.

How long are we talking here? 10 seconds? a minute?

More like 5, during which I cannot get to anything else on my laptop.

BlackBerry Link is the best application for you to have a break.

1) It takes several minutes before you could do anything with it, while synching your Mucis, Pictures, Videos & Document (around 15 min for mine)
--> So enough time to go grab a coffee

2) It then takes other several minutes to backup your devices (around 1 hours with mine)
--> So enough time for lunch with co-workers

3) Takes other several minutesss when you want to perform a Security Wipe (around 2 hour with mine) ...dont ask me why
---> So enought time to have a good dinner with your lady
4) It them takes several other minutes to restore data to your phone (an other hour with my devices)
---> So enough time to have a beer with your best friend

So now you understand that BlackBerry Link was designed with Social in mind
