One thing I haven't really warmed up to going from BB Bold to BB Q10 is the link SW, I find it very hard to understand (and I don't like it doesn't syncronize Notes in Outlook). My current problem is that my weekly backup file is 1. huge, 2. doesn't delete the old one, so after some months I run out of space. Is there any way to set up Link so that it deletes or overwrites the old backup file during the weekly backup?

I don't think so, but you could just manually delete the older backups. I tend to keep only the last three and get rid of the rest.

I don't think it will do it automatically for you. Also, if you don't need a full backup, you can have BB Link only backup what you need. I usually just delete old backups after I collect too many of them, and only keep the 1-2 most recent ones.
