Is there any way at all to completely disable the lock? So that fater 30 seconds the screen blacks out but i can wake the device as usual by pressing 0. I know i can swipe to unlock but coming from the 9900 im happier using keys!

I don't know about Pressing 0 to unlock, but if you disable Allow Gestures When Locked, then you will have to use the Power button to unlock your phone.

Not to my knowledge. You can set screen lock to 5 minutes max.
If you prefer using a key, you can disable gestures when screen locked. Then you can use the power key to unlock the phone.
If the screen is locked, you can hit one of the numbered keys, which will show the lock screen with time, date and information on received messages. Does not unlock the phone though.

Under the display settings I changed Allow Gestures when Locked to off and Allow Power to Unlock Device to on. Then after the 30 second timeout I lightly tap the power button at the top of the device and it takes me to whatever screen I was on befor the timeout. This does not work if you need to enter a password though.

Sigh- its actually a simple option- have the device lock or not but somehow Bb wants it to be locked regardless! If anyone does see a solution or an app pls do post. Thanks.
