    Hey Guys,

I just got my Q10 2 days ago, and its working great !! But i have a questions or two..

Battery life, its now half past 2 in the afternoon, and I've been up since 07.30.

I have sent about 20 emails, received about 20, sent 25 text messages, been on the phone for about 30 min.
Did a small amount of browsing the web, and worked on my email settings for about 10-20 min.

I have 4G on, and i have the softwear version 10.1.0.238 , bluetooth is of, wifi is of and NFC is of.

I just got the warning that i only have 20% left on the battery. Maybe I'm not use to blackberry but this isn't such a good battery time right ?
i mean i have 3 more hours of work left and only 20% left ?

Does the 4G take a lot of power ? i have the setting 4G-3G-2G, should i go down to 3G-2G ?

    Best regards

Glad your enjoying your Q10, mine should be with me soon, I'm on the z10 for now.

I would not worry just yet about the battery, it takes a few charges to settle and condition the battery, plus on initial setup there is a lot going on in the backgrpund.

Give it a week or so and see how it is.

Ok ! I have only charged it twice, so maybe it is as you say, fingers crossed ! So i should keep the 4G on ?

Other then the battery time and that i can't get me calendar from iCloud to sync this is probably the coolest phone I've ever had ! Awesome keyboard ! =)

If the phone feels hot during normal use, or even with the screen off, you may have an app that is misbehaving or you may just be in a poor wireless signal area. Either if those issues will drain the battery quickly.

4G is reported on most mobiles to have very high battery drain compared to the same device running on 3G

If you don't need the 4G speed, simply turn it off and use 3G instead. It is more than enough for email and for browsing websites that are not loaded with too much media.

4G radio uses significantly more energy than 3G.

Still struggling to go past 3pm without charging. I have switched off 4G and have very few apps. Only 2 email accounts on push.
BTW, I get better battery life on my Z10.

I got my Q10 4 days ago, charged it 2 times only, and already get to more than 2 days run time per charge. I think this is outstanding, as the battery has not even been trained properly yet.

My usage profile is similar to the OP's, 3G only, .273 OS level, lock screen gestures on, BT on, WiFi on, NFC off.

According to a battery manufacturer's recommendation for training a new cellphone battery, you should let it drain down to between 5% and 9% (not to 0% though!), and then charge it, and leave it on charge for a few more hours, even after having reached 100%. You should repeat this procedure ~5 to 6 times, before starting to charge on any level you like.

Following these rules, my Z10's battery life improved dramatically, from ~6-7 hours per charge in the beginning to ~15 hours. So I'm expecting an even much better performance from the Q10, after proper battery training.

Previously I was running OS 10.1.0.1483 (I don't know exactly, but I think that was software version. 238) and the battery was empty in just a few hours. What an awkward experience. Few days ago I installed OS 10.1.0.1720 (software version. 273) and battery life rocks again. There is still power left when I go to bed (late). I have the same applications installed as before, same accounts, same 'push-interval', everything is the same. I use the standard PlayBook charger.

My phone is actually a developer device (DAC), which has the same internals as the Q10 (SQN100-3), but with a smaller battery (1800mA) compared to 2100mA for a regular Q10.

As someone noted before me, the software version makes THE difference, try uploading the latest Software version, or be patient (I couldn't)

    Have a nice day.

Actually, even with 4G on you should still get through a day with the battery, I really think you just need to be a little patient and let the battery condition itself! Of course turning off things you don't need will always help to extend the battery!

I'm struggling with the z10 battery, but the q10 should be far better as it has a bigger battery and smaller screen, having said that today it's been fine, it's now 8:30pm and I have 35% battery left.

Give it about a week before you worry.

Also stay away from android ports, they seem to suck the battery dry.

Oh and James, make a back up, be patient, it is at your own risk. You need a windows machine.

The other thing to keep in mind is the quality of the cell signal you are receiving. If it's weak and the device is constantly connecting over and over it will chew through a battery in no time, regardless of usage.

For example, if where you are has an intermittent 4G signal, the phone will spend all day switching between 3 and 4G, each time it connects to either it will be using battery.

when i got the z10, i let it drain till it died and it took a good few hours to go from 20% to 0...so the battery may "show" its at 20% but i garuntee if you kept using it, it would take hours for it to drain the rest of it because it is not calibrated correctly. Almost all smartphones are like this when new

Sounds like a signal issue. It also might be the physical version of the phone you have. If it's capable of 4G in the right frequency band, it should just work. However, I wonder if one of the other frequencies is "primary" and it's always trying to search for that band. Just a hypothesis..
