I love using the FM radio on my Passport so I'd really like to know if there's one on the Priv. I've checked the BlackBerry website and it doesn't look like there's any mention of one.

Hmm I was ready to pre order and sell my soul to Android but I 'll wait to see if there is fm radio before to buy. We are near 2016 and most radio modules comes with fm radio built-in as in iPhone 6 but not activated by vendors..

The 808 processor itself supports FM, it just depends if BlackBerry enabled it. I hope they do as I do listen to FM every now and again

I was looking at the z30 specs as well. I wasdoing a comarison on the BB wbsite for priv, passprt, classic and z30. i own the z30. the z30 says it doesnt have FM but it in fact does. Could it be a feature not offered yet on the PRIV?

Does anyone own the PRIV and knows what the function is an could confirm its existence?

    thanks

The FM radio is disabled on the Priv. It's listed on the FCC specifications but cannot be turned on by any software I have tried.

Theres tons of apps and even specific radio stations have an app as well. That's the great thing about android, just download the specific radio stations you listen to. They all work via data or WiFi.

The problem is data use, that's what people don't like and a built in FM radio gets around the problem, it's rather stupid not to enable it if it's available, I just don't get it but I guess BlackBerry have a valid reason, not.

I miss the FM radio in my Q10 and if there is a FM radio in the Priv hopefully it will be activated in the future.

In the mean time I'm using the TuneIn Radio app. It allows me to listen to my local FM radio stations when I'm out jogging. For the hour I'm out the data usage is acceptable to me...less than 50 Mbs.

What about the countries that don't have an app equivalent for their fm radio station, many stations in africa, south America, Asia the use of fm radio capabilities is essential, I don't want to be using 10+gb a month to stream radio that idiotic, for now there's tunein app u can saved specific radio shows in their pro tiered service I think (don't anchor me to this)

I really don't understand how people freak at data usage while listening to the radio, as there is very minimal data usage for radio listening. What pipes a lot data is multimedia such as a movie.

But we'd much rather use that admittedly small amount for something else. Personally, I feel like we shouldn't have to pay for something that we can get for free.

Yep...the data usage is minimal as I mentioned in my original post. Certainly not something I'm concerned with...😁

But why should you have to use any data if there is a simple free alternative which uses no data, it just doesn't make sense.

What is minimal data usage? 50mb per hour? Well if I go to the gym, as I do, and listen for an hour each day, that will take up a GB of data over the month. I don't want to use my data for streaming music or radio that is already being broadcast through dm and I feature we have already been given. Almost like taking the power windows feature out of the car. We don't have to have it but we are used to it.

Anyway at my firm, Charter bank in Canada, the BES ver12 won't be rolled out till middle-of- next year. So the priv won't be secure for enterprise traffic till then.

I'm not sure if I should go to a passport or wait for the priv to hit our system. My z30 is great. I don't know why my firm doesn't offer it anymore?

Do I wish my Priv had a functioning FM radio? Yes

Do I feel using less than 50 Mbs in an hour streaming FM radio excessive? No

Every gym I have ever belonged to had WiFi so there shouldn't be an issue using data if you are streaming FM radio.

This is actually a deal breaker for me. I attend about 50 baseball games a year at various stadium where 4G and WiFi are severely overtaxed. I have to use an FM radio if I want to listen to some of the play by play. My Z10 also lacks a radio, and I won't get another phone without FM enabled.

Hope the FM radio gets enabled in an update. Used it constantly with my Z30. CBC radio app occasionally repeats short bits of audio ala Max Headroom.
