I think BlackBerry leaders put their hopes of success on Priv, you see Priv is high end device one year ago with beautiful design, well done built, the specs are top to compare with other competitors at that time. But why it still is not successful and can not save blackberry boat.

    1. The overpriced?
    2. Lack of the advertisement ?
    3. Experience Android is not as good as other android phone?
    4. Design?

Also, at launch, the build quality was bad, and the delay in delivery

Toxic brand. BlackBerry could have made the Pixel XL for $300 and no one would have bought it. Nothing else matters.

There are multiple reasons. Even on pure Android or generic mobile tech websites the Priv was well received according to the majority of comments. That was way prior release.

Once BlackBerry announced the price, positive comments stopped. Then there were only mixed reviews (as expected) by some bigger sites.
That was partly BlackBerrys fault due to the poor build quality, if you release a phone in the absolut high-end price range, you also have to deliver the build quality. A flexible back and creaking chasis is not the kind of quality you'd expect. European reviewers were disappointed by missing wireless charging, for whatever reason they dropped this feature on a 769 phone. The reviewers poked on these points and stated those weaknesses aren't acceptable for the pricing.

Last but not least the initial software wasn't really finished and it required a couple of updates, especially that big Marshmallow update, to get things right.

Of course Conite is also right: BlackBerry is a ruined brand and some big gadget websites see it as a red flag if they just spot the name or logo. BlackBerry could make a Note 7 class phone (minus the explosion stuff) for half the price and they'd rate it bad or be extremely nitpicky to highlight bad things about it.

    1. Overpriced.
Huge excitement before launching followed by huge resentment when pricing was announced spoiled the game for the Priv.

The fact that the Priv was high priced should not have surprised anyone. BlackBerry announced well in advance of the device's release, that it was a high end flagship device. Every flagship device, no matter the brand, is going to be pricey. What did you guys expect?

Previous BlackBerry (BB10) flagships retailed at 600-650. They announced the Priv for 799 just to reduce it soon after to 769 (or 779, can't really remember) because of a heavy outrage in comment sections across the web. That's a pretty heavy increase of pricing. Also devices with a competetive set of features and hardware (minus the keyboard of course) retailed within the 500-600 range didn't make the Priv look more attractive. I am still pretty sure if they would've released it at 599 or 649 the most, it would've sold better. In fact the time it was released around here, it was the second most expensive Android phone out there, only bested by the 64gig version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ which was slightly more expensive.

At the end, as already said, if you want flagship money for your device you better should deliver flagship quality. Review videos on Youtube showing and making fun of the flexible back as well as noting creaking sounds while using the device don't deliver for a premium flagship. Even most midrange phones offered better build quality.

I disagree - too many poor marketing decisions on this phones announcement led to its (and the company's) further demise.

    Yes!

The Passport launched here for $650 - the Priv was $899! I said the same thing when the Playbook launched, BB charged the same as an iPad and it had essentially none of the features, and the features the playbook did have - were useless. And then look what happend, at least the Priv is running android so they haven't killed off the phone for $200 on sale.

I never did understand the rationale for making so many different models, i mean there are 5 variations for the priv, whats the point? Surely its not all legal jargon for various regions. I can understand two, north america and europe for the various carriers, maybe 3. But 5 is pointless.

The lack of marketing also really hurt this phone, there simply wasn't any.

Blackberry team done goofed plain and simple, and it seems they haven't learned since 2011 with their decreasing market share, other failed products, they just keep getting smaller and smaller. If they didn't hold the patents they do, they'd be a small software company eventually turned into a crown corporation or a small strictly enterprise focused software company for security and vehicle platforms.

Hard to believe their peak share price was almost $250 - now its the cost of a footlong sub of the day.
