I'm using unlocked AT&T Priv in South Korea.

When the version was AAG202, I saw 4G sign on notification bar.

And when I upgraded with AAG277, it changed to LTE sign.

On AAG873, it changed to 4G again.

What's the difference of 2 signs?

I'm using two other different Android handsets and I just purchased my new Priv last month. I can confirm that my Priv on AAG853, it's also saying 4G. But using the same sim on my Samsung Note, it's saying LTE. I think 4G and LTE are used interchangeably.

The US apparently doesn't conform to world standards re defining LTE and 4G.

Apparently, LTE was used to indicate 3.5G. There are threads on cb re this, i'm fairly sure.

    Good article, thanks!
So the status bar on my Verizon PRIV that says 4G LTE is also incorrect? Nice to know how this really works now versus marketing!

It honestly depends on your carrier. Most do LTE anyway so even if your phone shows you 4g it probably means LTE (which is slower than true 4g) and then there are carriers who support 3.5g aka HSPA+ but love to describe it as 4G. My best guess is you're on LTE. If you ask me, you should be more concerned about your speed. I have multiple devices and carriers. My speed on Jio LTE is 6-12mbps, Airtel LTE 3-10Mbps, BSNL 3G, 4-7Mbps and Vodafone 3g 4-9mbps. So ultimately whatever your phone shows you or what your carriers advertise, I'd suggest you ignore and rate them on the speed you actually get.
