    Hello,

I've been quite a fan of pedometer apps on my Xperia Z1C. However, this device has a sort of special sensor just for this purpose. This means that the step counting is much more precise and it saves a lot of energy (walkmate app on my Xperia is usually under 2 % of total power consumption per day). Basically it is the same like on newer iPhones etc. Is Priv equipped with something like that? Cheers!

I use Google Fit and it rarely shows up in Battery stats.

    Apparently it does.

Maybe BB should have preinstalled Google Fit or something similar, otherwise you don't see any info about it unless you install an app like AIDA64 in my picture above. That's where I first saw it and decided to try and use it.

In the last three weeks I lost 7 lbs. thanks in large part to my Priv and Google Fit and MyFitnessPal apps.

That is a great loss. Keep it up. I need to follow suit.

Nice find! I have a Garmin Vivofit that syncs to my device. But it'll be handy to have a backup for the occasional day I forget to wear it.

Thanks. Will do, some 10-15 weeks more and I'll be at my goal.

Do you have to install Google Fit, first?
Well, not necessarily. The device counts the steps somewhere internally, but you can only see the number as in my picture above if you install an app, as I said earlier. But that counter resets on device restarts so unless you remember to write it down or something it's basically useless.
That's where Google Fit and similar apps come in handy. They take that info and log it so you can have your daily, weekly stats etc. Here's a few screenshots for those interested.

And it also automatically counts that as exercise in MyFitnessPal to adjust your nutrition goals. They apparently count calories a bit differently so a +/-200 kcal difference between what Fit and MFP think you've spent seems to be normal. I tend to believe MFP more.

If you don't want to share such info with Google (I'm sure F2 would have a problem with it ), there are other apps that can use that sensor info. I tried Moves as well, seems like a solid app, but on default settings it uses GPS a lot so it spends some more battery.

Sorry for the long post. Hopefully someone will find it useful.

I've started using Google fit again, used to use it on the G3, to track my activity and weight. I noticed you can also monitor vital signs in the fit app, but what type of hardware do you need to collect that?

My fitbit charge HR works fine, but you need to have both Bluetooth and location turned on to sync. To save my phone battery, I only turn on them on a few times per day. Which annoys people who challenge me, but what can you do ...

I see a value in the step counter. But is there an app that actually uses it on the phone?

Not natively. It's a pattern recognition of accelerometer readings.

Any step counter app downloaded is simply displaying and time stamping these values. Such as Google fit.......

You mean preinstalled? No, but accessing the sensor data is quite simple so you could probably write one yourself if you're into a little coding.

Found a few in looking. One serves up ads and there is not pay-version. Also, interesting, it has NO Permissions set Odd. It seemed to working walking around the motel room!

Another was rated well but too complex.

Who is the developer of that one. J4valin, possibly?

I simply meant pre-installed Google or BlackBerry software.

And I was just clarifying that the accelerometer is functioning all the time for a variety of purposes..... So it's not like this ability kills battery life.

Which of the following apps would you guys recommend, that has the least battery consumption?
    1. S health
    2. Lifelog
    3. Actxa

Cos I am currently using S health, but realise it uses quite abit of battery as it keeps the phone awake. So I was wondering if the others in the list may be better options

    Thank you!

Why don't you try Google Fit? It spends very little battery as far as I can tell. Haven't used any of the ones you listed so I can't say much.
