Type: localpart gmx de[RETURN]
And get: [email protected]

No it wouldn't. Only the ".", which makes sense.

webOS had this special (virtual)-tld key when in a emailadress field:

It would be a function of the keyboard app itself when it knows the input field is for an email address. So it should work within any app as long as the app developer uses a "email address" type identifier within the input field (which they all usually do).
