Passport did (same notebook computer). Plug Priv into USB port, edge color (indicating charging) comes alive for a few seconds, then disappears. Charging icon on top of screen charging animation is there, but no progress made on charging after 10 minutes. As I've been writing this post, charge has gone down from 80 to 78%, while on USB port. Single swipe down from top of screen revails "connected in charging mode". Priv charges fine via stand alone chargers. I've tried all the other USB ports on the notebook, same result. Do I need to install a driver to allow charging (Win7)? Any advice?

You've tried different ports, but have you tried a different cable? Has the connector gotten bent or otherwise damaged? I've seen a related thread in the last fe days, but can't find it right now.

I do have charging stop before 100% at times; I usually just pull the cord and reinsert. Occasionally, I'll do a 32-second reset.

Oops, forgot to mention, I've tried other cables too, same result.

Swipe down on your phone when it is plugged in. Tap the USB notification and select charge.

Done, "charging only" is default, does not seem to make any difference, still no charging going on.

    Have you rebooted?

Maybe the notebook doesn't have the juice. If it's running purely off its own battery then it might be trying to conserve battery power by slowing down or turning off power to unnecessary ports.

^^+1 from shifty and the rest of the folks-

Charging off USB only can be fickle at best. All depends on the cable AND the amount of voltage coming out of the port.

Regular USB I believe is 5v, which normally should be enough, but remember its a combo of the V and the Cable that's gonna get you.

I've even had issues using a 2.0 Qualcomm charger with a cable from a regular charger non BB charger. It happens, I doubt anything is wrong with your stuff.

I rebooted as suggested and tried yet a third cable. Now I'm charging, its mystery. I changed two things at once (I know I should only change one at a time) so I'll try swapping cables back again. If it still charges, then the reboot must have been it. thanks all.

Notebook is plugged into AC power, so that's not likely to be the problem.

You never know....did you do regular reboot or hard reset (by holding down the power for +30 seconds)?

Power profiles on laptops also differ where some USB interfaces output at 5v and some less or more, even if on AC. Just depends-

Only did regular reboot, not 30+ seconds button hold. Still charging some 30 minutes later.
