How is the priv's screen layers done? Can you do a glass only repair?

Is this actually the real glass front (it has the BlackBerry logo on it yet marked out for the pic) and looks a little diff than the glass protectors.

Never seen anything other than the whole screen offered as a replacement. And that was pretty expensive....

Check the description in the listing. Title says Front Screen but description says new back battery cover door.

Yeah that specific listing is dumb like that, it was just the cheapest.. There is another in the 22$ range that has a better description.

There is a YouTube video of someone doing a scratch test of the Priv screen and taking it apart. The screen replacement looked easy, it takes a pro apparently only five minutes.

It's tempting..... I have no idea how nasty separating the glass from display and digitizer layers is however...

I broke my screen tonight. Dropped it face down on the concrete. Now I'm deciding what to do next

That's not glass only, that's the "screen" only not the entire slide front part- as that's what is sold on ebay etc, the entire front... haven't found just the lcd,digi,glass - although I haven't looked at his links in vid yet.

Yeah 240 without slide frame, 270 with via etradesujpply... or about 240 with on ebay.

Here a "guinea pig" reporting

tl:dr They are useless, can't be fixed with just that.

I bought one of those glass-only replacements for around $20 off eBay in the hope of being able to fix my cracked screen for cheap.

Unfortunately I found out there is no way to replace only the glass. The LCD and digitizer are glued to the glass itself, and there is no way to remove them without damage. Here is a picture of the disaster:



I ended up buying a second-hand full screen replacement with frame and all off eBay from a guy in Hungary for 140 british pounds, which is still pricy but better than any other place I have found so far. There are still a few left at the time of writing:

Replacing the screen with that part was easy enough with the help of the disassembly video that somebody posted a few messages up.

Sorry for your mishap, but thanks for replying to us that wasn't an option. I like to be prepared and have already been looking into options and prices to repair if this happens to me.
