BB10 got a major update and it was practically like a new phone so I'm sure the PRIV will get a similar major update.

Yup, but "unless something changes," Motorola (or Verizon - no one knows who's to blame) left the carrier versions of the Moto X2 behind - they're confirmed as not getting Marshmallow, and it's barely a year-old phone.

Just sayin', as other posters above recommended, plan on never getting Marshmallow - and be delighted if you do

I think you're wrong there.
Motorola will be updating the X2. It is then up to the carrier to release the update.
Motorola will not have left it behind and if a device that is only a year old is not getting the update, then that is a carrier issue

Of course it will. Google "recommends" 2 years of support as minimum for android devices

Optimally, they'll be updating it before Samsung launches their S7 series phones. I'm guessing the update will happen in March

We can hope that 6.0 will fix many of the issues with battery drain, etc that Priv owners are having.
