It appears that the camera sensor on the Priv is an Sony Exmor IMX230. Same as the Sony Xperia Z series.

Not gonna lie I have an xperia z3 compact and the camera isn't all that great.

Seeing that this camera is the same as the z4 hopefully it's good.

Another interesting tidbit, the Moto X Pure/Style has the same sensor too. It wasn't even shipped to manufacturers till back in April.

    I'm confused.

We know it's an 18 MP lens (or it used to be), and the Sony IMX230 is a 21 MP lens. The Moto X Pure/Style has it.

I thought we were counting on Schneider-Kreuznach to provide the lens?

It could also just mean that the camera samples from the review are BS.

One has nothing to do with the other. Schneider provided the optics.

Yup that's what I think too.
I feel like that whole review was BS. He didn't say anything new at all. In fact he claims the 'edge' on the screen is smaller than the one on the S6 which just isn't possible. If you've seen the s6 in person the curved edge of the screen is tiny. In fact from the photos it looks to be the same I'd say, definitely not less

It's not describing the camera sensor itself. It says that the software is IMX230-S-13.

The picture's resolution that the Priv takes are 4896x3672 wich equates to 17.978.112pixels, So it's 18MP not 21, can't be that sony sensor. You can download the pictures from the article where the guy posted the pictures, they seem to be the orignal file.

21 Megapixel Rear Camera Rumored For BlackBerry Priv | Ubergizmo
Theres a lot of excitement these days about an upcoming BlackBerry smartphone, a rather unusual sight if youve been following how the companys devices have been performing for the past few years, nevertheless its first Android-powered smartphone has got people talking about BlackBerry again. As per a new rumor its possible that the BlackBerry Priv might have a 21 megapixel rear camera.

That would certainly be the best camera yet on a BlackBerry smartphone, the companys handsets arent popular for their imaging prowess, but that might change with the inclusion of Sonys IMX230 sensor.

Keep in mind though that theres some debate over the matter of the Privs rear camera, in some of the images that have been leaked we see an 18 megapixel rear camera, whereas recent rumors suggest that the final version of this handset will have the 21 megapixel Sony IMX230 sensor.

the IMX is 21mp, and isn't even that good for today's standards. Priv's sensor is 18mp (confirmed by the leaked pictures) and probably is a Sony sensor aswell, because almost every smartphone has a Sony sensor. HTC's, Samsungs and iphones all use sony sensors.

So Sony must make a 18MP version? Despite the link I sent, I couldn't find sensor info on the actual Carphone website.

Almost all smartphones use sony sensors including Iphones and Samsungs. So wouldn't be a surprise to see Blackberry using it here. We saw pictures of the priv, wich had in the Metadata saying "software - IMX 230", that's where people are assuming the sensor is from. The now old IMX-230 is a 21mp sensor, so this one has to be a new one.

It could be 18 that is actually used. Depending on the focal length, you may not be able to get far enough form the sender to use all of it.
