Some kind of bug invaded my Priv today and bricked it. Coincidentally, it happened after an OTA update from Blackberry. It's not rooted, I don't download any strange apps, and I haven't done anything with it beyond vanilla usage.

Now it is completely dead. Blackberry says they will replace it, but it will take 2 weeks due to a "backlog". The heck am I supposed to do for 2 weeks without a phone? Use smoke signals to reach clients? I laid out $600 through ShopBlackberry plus $5 a month in insurance for this???

    Anyone else have this issue?

    Edit: It's 4 months old.

There are 2 kinds of people in this world.
Those that have devices which failed.
And those that have devices that are waiting to fail.

This is why I kept my Bold 9930 and 9900.
I called Verizon and for about a day, activated my Bold 9930. They did it without even having to put a SIM card in it.
Switched back to the Priv the next day. Nice to know I have a backup with all my contacts already uploaded if the Priv gets bricked.

This is how I get around the problem...all of these devices with the exception of the Z10 has the exact same apps installed in each one and a simple data sync gets me back in business within minutes. LOL

Only Crackberry addresses a backup issue by suggesting the OP owns 6 phones. Lmao

It's not a bug. Were you connected to wifi when the update was downloading? It happened to my first Priv. Rebooting into safe mode and then rebooting into regular mode solved the issue.

Would one think BlackBerry suggested all this before offering replacement?

They said the phone can no longer communicate with them or me. It will not fastboot nor go to recovery mode.

There were no issues before this, and it looks like the priv can be hit with anything at any time. Blackberry's response only pushes them deeper into the grave. Very unhappy with myself for giving them one last chance.

Ummm...where did I suggest the OP needs to own 6 phones? I just said these are MY backup devices and fortunately, I've not had to use any of them as an emergency backup so far.

I was just relating my experience with the first update I did on my Priv. So, your problem if you were offended by my comment. Bless your heart as we say in the South!
