I personally have no problem with the $699 price if the priv offers me the functionality I need. I do understand, however, the risk of that price being a big obstacle for Blackberry's desired results.

They should really consider a promotional pricing strategy from its release through the end of the year. Announce $499 if purchased by Dec 31, and simultaneously announce $699 starting Jan 1. You'll attract more buyers out of the gate, and if the device performs then that initial purchasing base will be Blackberry's best word of mouth advertising. And if the device gains real traction, then those who liked the idea of the priv but elected to wait and see how the device performed/was received, will not have a problem with the post-promotional $699 price.

Capture as much market share as you can as quickly as you can, which the promotional price will help achieve, and then let the device's performance and its users' word of mouth work the next phase of things.

I'll still buy it at $699, but the company should be as aggressive as they can to capture a new following.

I like this idea, except for the fact I already pre ordered, but would get the device a lot of much needed exposure.

What you're describing is a form of marketing: pricing strategy. Why would you think that BlackBerry would do that?
