Someone will need to take off the back of their version 3 to see if just the sticker is removed.
Yeah, I agree. I would be SUPER interested in a test like that.

And if it works, where to buy the back with the integrated coil ?

I'm not sure to understand from the pictures how the back cover is electrically connected to the main unit.

Is it because the middle bit with the keyboard is missing ?

Could someone explain by any chance please ?

It uses pressure pins. There will be pins or spring connectors on the other part with the battery. they do this with microphone and speaker connectors on backs of most devices i repair

It might not work depending how they implement it. It might be missing circuitry on the phone side. Someone tried taking the Classic back off and apply voltage on the pins, it didn't work.

So just took a simple case tool and opened mine. its a Rogers phone as you can see it is missing the the coil at the bottom of the back. As well if you look close you can see that it is also missing the pressure pins to connect it to. I guess all i need to do is apply the proper voltage there to see if my device will charge. Not going that far but I am willing to test a different back with the coil on it!

I am willing to bet that those charging pins are active.

I have a Galaxy Note 2 i317m, which did not have the wireless charging coil in the back plate, and Samsung never said it supported wireless charging. But aftermarket wireless charging coils were available and I bought one, and was able to use wireless charging on my Note 2.

I would say that these Priv's would be the same scenario.

It's easy to get inside but I wouldn't want to drop it in water. It looks like everything is completely exposed.

I was thinking a very similar issue would be dropping the phone. It doesn't look as solid as I had hoped but that's just from looking at a pic so I could be wrong.

Any phone dropped in water is toast unless it is COMPLETELY sealed, and damn few are. Conformal coating helps to a degree, but there's enough high-energy RF running around in a phone that even doing that won't save you most of the time.

BTW the weak spot on virtually all phones in that regard is the headphone jack. It's a wide-open hole and worse there's a power amp circuit right near there for the headphones. One drop of (especially salty, like perspiration or sea) water in the wrong place that comes in through there and you're done; a V+ rail short to any grounded trace and you burn one of the two; that's all she wrote.
Nano State Flash Flood. A great product that will waterproof any component on your phone including the Headphone jack.

I wonder what is missing for those that have complained about the back of the phone being squishy. I have not complained, but mine is squishy of flexes in the middle of the back. Sounds like it is missing support in that area.

I'm sure something like this can be made/used :

I'm just wondering what is the third point of connection used for ?
Would it be required on the Priv?

Also, I used this on my Z30 before, but it was annoying to have something plugged in the USB port and piping out from the back cover.
    But it was working.

Someone would need to take their back off that has a charging coil and place it on a charging mat and measure the voltage on the pins then check the amperage, once you tested that you could apply that same voltage and amperage to the two contact points and see if the phone charges. But the biggest problem is that there are no pressure pins for it to connect to, there is just 2 solder points so if you are good with soldering and hopefully you don't use a lot of heat that might screw other ICs up. Not worth it to be honest. But surly this was not a cost thing they removed it from Canada. There had to be a different reason why it was removed from Canadian phones like it wastes power etc.

and I wonder why he blacked out the serial on the charging coil on the second pic but not the first one.

Those are just part numbers, they normally would not put device serial numbers on parts. I cant see what the need for it would be.

So is that showing two speakers at the bottom or no? If there are two, is only one active on the priv?
