Can you restrict app permissions? Or must that task app you download really access your contacts / location / microphone / ***?

Once Android M comes to the Priv you'll be able to do so.

Thanks guys - it's a no then seemingly. Can you do it on iOS? No point saying Priv will have it down the line because we're talking BlackBerry here, it may never happen.

So - iOS, does it allow you to do this?

There are many free apps that allow you to modify app permissions. The next version of Android will have it as part of the OS.

Seems silly to not get a phone because you do not want to download one tiny free app.

Did I say that Puck? Bit of a silly comment to make. If that's all it takes then I'll definitely buy the Priv - sounds like a great phone as long as there's some way I can block permissions where I want to.

    Thanks for the info guys.

It can be done if this PRIV truly has a customized ROM. Cyanogenmod did it, Blackphone2 did it all without waiting for Marshmallow. Wait & see.

For me, Hub, emailing system and keyboard are deciding whether I would go for Privy.

Yeah, granular app permission control is coming with Android Marshmallow.

I passed your request over to John Chen. He will personally take care of that and all the other requests people are making. Like a dual MicroSD slot, 4GB of RAM a BB10 version, an all metal housing and so on.

Isn't that what the Bbry DTEK app is supposedly for? Tracking what data apps track and permissions and such?

This sounds like a function that needs to be implemented at the OS level rather than via an app. After all, if the OS is going to allow an app to open and close any door then can't some other app control these doors whatever way they want?
