I must have the feature turned off because I can't get the unread message spark to show up. I can see I have unread messages on the locked screen and the pull down menu at the top of the screen. There is just no notification that shows up on the home screen icons. Thanks

Are you using a third party launcher? That feature is only available if you use the BlackBerry Launcher.

I don't know if I am using the BlackBerry launcher? When I swipe up from the bottom of the screen three icons pop up. I believe this is the launcher.

Solved.

It looks like you need to permit the BlackBerry Hub app to access your notifications. I was ignoring the app's request to allow it to access my notifications. You can see the request when you pull down from the top of the screen.
