"after our Telco's have verified it" usually means months. Carriers have no incentive to facilitate kernel updates. It often triggers customer service events because some handsets will be bricked, lose data, etc. They will drag their feet as long as they possibly can because if the user wants an updated experience they would much rather you buy a new phone and sign a new contract. This will especially be true of a one-off low-volume handset.
This is so, so true. Unless compatible ROMs leak for the Priv for various carriers, some will likely never even receive the update and most will be severely delayed.

Oh and by the way, did anybody actually read the linked article? "BlackBerry is now a software company that happens to make handsets" and "Our focus is on enterprise - not the consumer". LMFAO.

I guess it depends on what you care about. My wife's phone has Marshmallow and it isn't very different.

I care about lack of bugs. Lollipop has them in abundance. Marshmallow has leagues fewer.

Hm, checked the MWC list and didn't find BB under Canada. Apparently their delegation is from Pleasanton, California rather than Waterloo.

Pleasanton is where one of their American offices is, and maybe coincidentally where John Chen lives.

Does this mean anything? I don't know.

BlackBerry FSBO ready to receive Android Marshmallow (short)
Posted in Android Powered News tagged Android firmware marshmallow news Priv in February 10, 2016 by P0PPEL
Here is one of those news that will delight all users of the latest addition to the BlackBerry home, the BlackBerry FSBO that mounts Android latch system, for now, to version 5.1.1.

We know that BlackBerry has always declared that BlackBerry FSBO would be updated monthly and have thus maintained the initial promise of becoming the most secure Android smartphone.

"BlackBerry would not deliver an Android powered device the unless it was sure it could deliver the most secure Android devices," these were the words were always the words of Matthew Ball, Managing Director of the Blackberry in Australia and New Zealand.

Apparently it's news today (thanks to rapidbiz site) that the Carriers are already starting to bring the various tests Marshmallow BlackBerry Priv and words of Ball confirm this:

"We are testing Android Marshmallow now and will roll it out shortly after our Telco's have verified it" and even "BlackBerry will Regularly roll out over-the-air updates to its software but Android kernel updates [That change the device's 'Radio'] will need to be approved by the Telcos (we are testing Marshmallow and will be made available shortly, once approved by TELCO - BlackBerry will continue to provide OTA software updates "over the air" but the Android kernel updates must be approved before by Telcos)

In an interview with itwire BALL also it points out that, currently, the BlackBerry company is focused on the software and the creation of new devices would seem secondary thing.

"BlackBerry is now a [mobile security software] That company happens to make devices," adds Ball (BlackBerry is now a software company that produces devices) pointing out the concept with

"Our focus is on enterprise - not the consumer" (our focus is the business market - not that of the normal consumer).

Rightly or wrongly, also from this source they come the same concepts, a hypothetical user abandonment consumer and a propensity to corporate services.

You as you see the future for BlackBerry? and above all, you feel abandoned by the brand that until a few years ago was a certainty for everyone?
So their AU/NZ guy and just that guy said something. Reminds me of that time their India guy ran off his mouth about dismantling BIS in 2015, which didn't happen.

Again, it'll probably be elucidated at MWC.

And why is Fsbo Italian for Priv?

"Ecco una di quelle notizie che renderanno felici tutti gli utilizzatori dellultimo nato in casa BlackBerry, il BlackBerry *PRIV che monta sistema Android fermo, per ora, alla versione 5.1.1."

It was just the translator messing up!

Just don't buy from a carrier. If you are going to buy a Priv go through shopbb or Amazon. Unlocked is your only bet for timely updates on any phone.

It's expected the Priv to get major system updates later than others because of the kernel patches BlackBerry is applying.
