For some reason, my SD card has become write protected randomly. I'm able to move files from it when connecting to PC but my device will not read the card. It's as though it's not in the phone. And when I try to format it on the PC, I get a write protected error. Any thoughts? It's a 128 gig Lexar card.

That's the card controller protecting itself because it is failing. Replace it NOW!

I had the same issue with my lexar 128GB card.
I sent it to Lexar for a replacement. The replacement did the same thing within a couple of months.
I didn't send the second one back because I ended up having to pay tax when it was delivered. Apparently they declared it at list price, even though no reasonable retailer actually charges full price.

I have since bought a SanDisk card that is working well.

Thanks to both of you. Figured as much and will be replacing it but thought I would check here first.

Here are the steps to switch off read-only on a micro sd. You will need a Windows PC.

    1. Plug the SD card into a PC.
    2. Click the Start button. Click Run.
    3. Type "cmd"
    4. Type "diskpart"
    5. Type "list volume" . All the disk drives available on the PC are listed. Note the volume number or the drive letter associated with the SD card.
    6. Type "select volume #" where # is the volume number or the drive letter of the SD card.
    7. Type "attributes disk clear readonly"

    Read-only is switched off.

While this is definitely worth a try, it didn't work when I tried it on my first Lexar 128GB card.

Those steps didn't work for me either. So frustrating. Any other thoughts?

Depending on what card your have, you may want to consider getting it replaced on warranty.

    I'll probably try that. It's a Samsung EVO 64gb.

Looks like it probably has a 10 year warranty then.

You're supposed to call Fedex, and tell them to cancel the invoice instead of paying it.

    I guess. I just wasn't expecting it, so I wasn't prepared.
