    How To:

Fix for BlackBerry Priv "screen clicking"

You can see the original thread on this topic here: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...licks-1047916/

I have decided to create a new thread so we can keep the OP updated with solutions.

Many of you have read or experienced "screen clicking" when your BlackBerry Priv screen is closed and you are typing away on the virtual keyboard.

    This can be downright annoying!

Before returning your beloved device to your carrier or BlackBerry I may have a solution to your problem.

Returning the device does little to guarantee you don't have the issue. I have had two AT&T variants of the Priv, both of which experienced the "clicking" issue in the beginning and now work perfect.

*I am not responsible for any damage you may cause to your device following this "fix". USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.*

I have created a video discussing and showing how I and friend have resolved the issue.

Here are the written directions (THANKS to lawguyman for your help!):

    1. Open the keyboard.
    2. Place one thumb on the top of the screen either on the left or the right of the BlackBerry logo (depends on which side is clicking).
    3. Place your index finger under the back of the screen on the opposite side.
    4. Place your other hand down at the base of the phone (where the speaker is)
    4. Apply GENTLE pressure to the top of the screen where your thumb is.
    5. Close the phone and test for clicks. If there are still clicks repeat with just a little bit more pressure. Test again for clicks. Repeat as necessary.

Hope this fixes the problem for you.

Let me know if this worked or didn't work for you in the thread.

As a general rule we like to keep forum stickies at 5 or less. This forum already has 6 which is ok, its a brand new device, BUT I hesitate to make a 7th. HOWEVER what I did instead was I put this thread as a link in the Tips, Tricks & Discoveries sticky.

PS feel free to keep working this thread I just put the link to this thread in the other sticky along with a number of other tip/trick/etc thread links.

This is a temporary fix right? Meaning it comes back over time

Clearly it has the potential to come back, but after I did the "fix" it has not came back. Still nice and tight since I made this video.

I mean if I flex it the opposite way it will come back as I demonstrated in the video and clearly has the potential to do this in a pocket.

So I guess it's to early too tell if this will become an issue.

Worked for me, too, and my issue started after dropping my device, it was 100% solid to begin with. So, sounds like there's some kind of clip that is easy to pop out of in the slide mechanism. To that end, I definitely noticed when I applied this fix, a very slight "pop" that I could feel on my device, and now it's tight as can be. I'd wager any sufficient impact to the device will cause it to return, and since it almost universally seems to be the left side of the device that experiences it, it seems to me that it might be something that probably could and should be fixed by BB. Whether that happens or not will remain to be seen.

    Many thanks, mrfreeze

    Good post!

Its actually not even the screen that is clicking. It's all in the back, it just happens when you press on the screen.

I think that's a whole different issue that only effects the devices that don't have wireless charging. Due to a void in the back of the casing where the wireless charging coil would be.

Is it normal for the priv when slid up that the screen moves slightly left and right with a little pressure with thumbs either side at the bottom??

    Anyone have same issue?

All of these problems sound the same as those found on the Torch 9800. They were mostly all fixed on the Torch 9810. I presume if we get PRIV v2, all of these issues will be dealt with.

My shell I bought at AT&T prevents it or should I say it used to till I swapped out phones then my shell got lose and so it looks like I need to buy another one or find a way to tighten it up a bit because these fragile shells are so weak because the phone is made so odd.
    Good luck Otterbox!!!
