Are you sure you are on Google Messenger? The Verizon Priv comes with Verizon Messages app stock. I can tell you how to do it on Verizon Messages.

I changed to the other app today because verizon sms app is not working with hub after updating today. Group chats and pictue messages do not work properly...

Sorry to hear that you are having problems. Mine works just fine. I don't know anything about Google messenger. In the Verizon messages app it is in customization when you hit the 3 dots in the upper right corner.

I'm using the app Missed Call Reminder. It let you to detail configure the different LED color notification for Message, Email & Call. So far so good. Be sure the free version is by Andromax Development when searching from Play store.

You can try an app called Light Flow. Lets you fully configure the LED to flash whatever you want for any app.

Yes correct on standard sms apps Messages (google) that comes with PRIV there is no setting to change LED color but only sound. Try TEXTRA not sure if it has LED setting but a lot people recommend it.
