I just got my new case for it on Friday. This morning it flew out of my jacket pocket and hit the floor. The screen is all cracked. Thankfully it still works.

So what do I do now? What's my best course of action????? I'm in Ottawa, FYI. Do I send it to BB for repair? One of those shops that fixes phones? I have the insurance through Bell but the deductible is $100+.

    Why not use your insurance?

S6edge screen costs around 200$ so the priv is the same price I guess

Better repair it through the insurance as that is actually a good cost (deductible) than pay for the repair to a shop (I doubt many/any will have the screen for Priv in stock)

Yeah... and makes me wonder if going through a 3rd party, rather than insurance, would actually void the manufacturer warranty. Anyone know?

I'd assume your warranty would be void if anyone other than BlackBerry touches it.

This... Plus, I'm not sure if there are replaceable parts available for the Priv at the moment, I still can't find any back covers, let alone screens.

Not only that, but if you repair it, you get a repaired phone, if you send for insurance, if they can't find a screen for it, you might end up with a brand new device.

Yeah but who really cares if it's a brand new device the device is a month old.

People have this superstition that the software will behave differently on a new device.

Check with your credit card company. Most have insurance on the first 90 days will pay for full repair/replacement if a device is lost/breaks the first 90 days with no deductible.

Ouch.... Might have to go insurance. I would call BlackBerry first just to see what they say / how much they would charge before doing anything else. I doubt it will be better than the insurance deductible, but stranger things have happened to me before.

Best bet is to probably eat the $100 deductible and go through insurance, will be the cheapest way and a lesson learned.

I have Assurion, and while I know people have complained about them, I've never had an issue (knock on wood) in the two times I've used them. In fact, they didn't even care about how it broke (both times were for stupid reasons). The deductible stinks, but it's better than buying new.

A brand new device hasn't been droped. Who knows what kind of stress could have been done to other components and it's life span.

What's worth more, a refurbished phone or a brand new one?
