Seeing a lot of posts recently of those who refuse to install the FB app due to privacy concerns. Just a reminder to you all there's always the mbasic version

    https://mbasic.facebook.com

Create a shortcut onto your homescreen and there you have it.

Not widely known but available primarily for those with very basic computing ability. UI is very rudimentary, however, you have access to most of what FB offers including messaging. Best part? No more battery drain!

    Cheers!

I'm running it now on my Passport to check it out and it works pretty darn well. Thanks for the advice.

I recommend Metal. It is a beautiful wrapper for Facebook. There is a free and a Pro version. I highly recommend you give it a shot. A coworker of mine was complaining about battery drain on her Android device. I told her about Metal and she uninstalled the Facebook app and has been happy ever since. It also has the added benefit of allowing access to Twitter, although it is not as well developed as the Facebook portion of the app.

I have FB on my Priv but turned off all permissions except storage. The app still seems to work and I don't think it is causing battery drain, possibly because it isn't polling my location all the time.

Are Metal and others able to access the FB messaging system? I know that messaging via the Web version (non mbasic version) got kiboshed a few months back. But you could still access it using the mbasic version.

Yes, I receive messages through Metal with no need to install Messenger. It does not, however, work for the 'legacy' setting within the app. Only the newer format.

I also recommend Metal for facebook. You can also plug in Twitter with it if you are a light user of both. Great for battery life and less invasive in terms of phone content and personal info

I'll give it a shot then. Clearly Metal has been updated to include messaging.

Does it remove ads? That would automatically make this app superior to the stock app.

There are sponsored ads that appear periodically in my feeds.
