How do I get notifications like a new email, sms, hangout pings, etc to alert me through my bluetooth headphones?

Right now, it just keeps playing my music which is fine but i keep missing alerts!

Not sure you can, unless theres an app
I'm using a Plantronics Voyager Legend, not headphones, and don't do music with it. Yaata, paid version will announce who's texting me, and of course the BT tells me who is calling.
Try going through each individual apps settings and see if there is anything. Including your music player.

Hopefully somebody will come along and prove me wrong.

I got my new email notification sound streaming to my car. I don't recall any special setting...

I use BT headphones and get my notifications. Make sure that not just the BT music volume is up, but also the notification volume.

I'm pretty sure it has to be baked into the BT profile your devices use. I get my notifications (with the tones I selected) through my old Jawbone Icon and my Plantronics BB2Go (full headphone), but not through my newer Plantronics M155.

Didn't work for me on getting email notifications. But I won't get text notifications if it's down. BTW it's labeled 'Ring Volume'.
And, all my email accounts are turned on under BT - advanced.

If there is any BT profile associated with the hub, I couldn't find it.
