I usually make a habit of waiting on the 2nd generation of a new device. There are dozens of devices that did much better after a 2nd release..iPhone 2, Storm 2, Roku 2 & 3, etc.. That being said, will you guys get the 1st Priv that is released or wait till the work out the "kinks" and add updated tech for the 2nd gen???

I think that is the point thurask is making. If too many people think like you there might not be a Priv 2. Better to buy the first one to support BlackBerry's last ditch effort to keep its handset division.

Well, after all, Google ist the software supplier and Android has reached a very good level now. BlackBerry is experienced in both, hardware and software. It's not comparable to back in the time when iOS was a completely new thing and smartphones were in their early stages.

Today, entering the market with a good product is a whole lot easier than years ago.

At this point you're best off buying Priv 1.

So much for not counting your chickens before they hatch. The phone is not even out and there are several threads about gen 2 and crazy speculation on features and what not. This brave new world.

Well, I'm a consumer that doesn't like to waste money, and I don't ever make my purchasing decisions on how they affect the company I'm buying it from. I simply want a piece of technology to work when I buy it, get my money's worth(at least 2 years) and don't want feel like a fool when a 2nd Gen comes out 6 months later(ie iPhones for example) and they want me to spend another $300-600 on the "new" device that really isn't new, it's just updated with things people did and didn't like about the 1st. Unlike alot of people on contract, I purchase my devices outright, paid in full with no payment plan..that being said, if I pay $500+ cash for a device, I'd rather not feel like I got jerked because they made upgrades and dropped 2nd Gen 6 months later! Thus the reason I usually wait to 2nd Gen devices..not just phones but technology in general.

What I was thinking. Plus I'm happy with what the specs look like, as long as the camera doesn't disappoint I shouldn't have a need to wanna upgrade for a few years.

Spec wise all the passports are really the same.. it's just cosmetics that changed slightly. There's not officially a passport 2 yet so by that trend Priv 2 will be a while unless they change their strategy to be yearly like iPhone

I'll be the first in line to buy the new PRIV. I'll be looking for the connectivity with a strong antenna, all the usual features such as BBM, and that BB case that incorporates the flashing red LED. Above all else, it MUST have BB security. The components, such as speakers and microphone, I have found to be the best and hope they maintain that quality.
