I see folks talking about transferring from BB10 to Priv, but consider the other direction?

Will Google automatically transfer my apps and settings over the cloud from my Nexus 5 if I sign in on a Priv and enable backup/restore?

I cannot see why it shouldn't.

I can't see why it shouldn't as long as you are using the same google account.

I wonder what would happen if I bought a Priv, signed into Google, then downloaded MyBackup Pro, and restored my latest data backup from my Nexus 5 running Marshmallow. Hopefully, one would think any and all compatible settings and data would be transferred and the Priv would then have all my setting from my Nexus 5.
