I was just wondering if current PlayBook owners will be able to upgrade their software to the new OS when it is available or will it just continue to evolve? I'm thinking it won't be possible due to the price changes on the new PlayBooks advertised online at Best Buy. The price change must reflect some sort of significant hardware change/improvement for the price. $499.99 for the 16gig, $599.99 for the 32gig and $699.99 for the 64gig version. But then again I'm just new to all of this so it's probably just a dumb question on my part.
It won't be like this forever, of course, but I'm pretty sure we've already had some sort of confirmation that existing PlayBooks will get the BB10 OS when it's finally ready.
RIM wouldn't want to support the existing stuff in parallel, and most of the developer base will initially be on the WiFi-only models of the PlayBook (unless they hand out 25,000 free BB10 phones), so it just makes sense that way...
BB10 will be on the PB. BB10 is just the evolution of the the current PBOS 2. You can think of BB10 as PB OS 3 perhaps. BUT beyond that all bets are off really. I can see some features not working on older models eventually. Kind of like apple doesnt offically have everything working for iOS 5 on the 3GS. There will be hardware limits that come into play eventually like RAM and the processor.
I work for developer that had a BB app. At the release of the PlayBook, it was promised that BB apps would run on the Playbook. That promise was reneged on.
