HTML5Test.com has been updated to 3.0 and now shows the BB Tablet OS 2.1 as the best upcoming tablet browser with 381 plus 10 bonus points.
With 3.0 browsers can now reach up to 500 points. Please keep in mind that not all browsers have been tested with the new test, e.g. the score for BB10 is still the same and Tablet OS 2.1 has probably also been tested with the old version as 3.0 has just been released.

Edit: The developer of HTML5test.com has already used the new test in the background since 28.03 so the score for Tablet OS 2.1 should be right.

I hope its around the corner, RIM's update cycle seems to show it should be soon. I thought it would be today but evidently not

I don't think OS2.1 is around the corner just because it showed up. Otherwise, the same thing could be said about BB10, that is also spotted on the test, and we all know BB10 is at least 5 months away.

Maybe release will coincide with the release of the 3G/4G PlayBook?

This is very cool, though! Can't wait to see what 2.1 brings!

Don't get your hopes up to much. 2.1.xxx will only be a minor update.

When OS versions change their second digit it usually means the add of new features.

I saw on another site that 2.1 will most likely release with the 4g playbook next month.

Whether they stick with this plan or not is of course not something anyone here can predict, but I'll note that 2.0.1 was the "minor update" which was expected a month after 2.0.0, whereas 2.1 should be a more major update and was/is expected in May.

I think that 2.0.1 got held up because Adobe issued a security update for flash in the first week of March --- and RIM has to re-create the security update from source code themselves.

Yes I was thinking the same thing, I'm thinking since that 2.1 shows up and not 2.0.1, that on HTML5test.com OS 2.0.1 would render the same result as 2.0.

Theoretically 2.1 could mean the next "more major" or "more noteworthy" update to the PlayBook before the OS 3 (BlackBerry 10) update

Definitely, I'm pretty sure this happened since the Adobe security update kind of "interfered" with RIM's pattern of updates (as seen with OS 1.0.x) But I think for 2.0.1 it'll be a lot of maintenance and under the hood stuff. Perhaps we may see a new feature or two as an end use, but I'm not really expecting anything big.

On a related side note, I definitely like how the PlayBook gets itself updated. The updates come directly from RIM and there's no "middle man" (Carriers) to interfere with the update. Everyone essentially gets the update at the same time and I definitely think RIM should adopt this approach for its upcoming BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

That's great - as things keep moving along from RIM, it slowly builds back credibility and boosts future confidence. Not a game changer, but important.

A lot of the points assigned are arbitrary. Accessing the webcam --- which 99% of the tested browser doesn't support is worth 20 points.
