Request: reset android player
I think many people like me would like to have a reset button/app to restart the android player only, without rebooting the pb every time the android player is freezing.
I don't think it's a big effort on rim's side to provide such a incredibly useful function.
I really miss os 1.0.8, because I can have my pb running for 3 months w/o rebooting, but now I have to reboot it daily due to the android player freezing issue.
EDIT: android task killer is NOT an option, because the android player is freezing already.
EDIT2/Workaround: with showcase as the application behavior, open apps to use up as much ram as possible (e.g. webpages full of flashes/ad/scripts), qnx will reset the frozen android player. This page resets mine, (along w/ any other running apps).Last edited by angellsl; 03-03-2012 at 03:41 PM.

You might try to find a task killer instead ?

yeah a task killer will try to launch it's self in the android player so if the android player is hosed already, the task killer won't work, lol

First, remove any custom android launcher (go launcher/adw etc etc). Next, after exiting from one app and starting another (android app), it'll start in new instance of app player.

That's really required. There has to be a way to reset android player without restarting the playbook which takes a good 3.5 min. Also there is something fundamentally wrong with the implementation of the android player because it freezes just too often. I've an observation which may be wrong but seemingly the android applications which need to access Internet such as taptu or world press cause the frequent freezing of android player. Which in any case should not be happening. Now I can't actually buy any application for the fear of it turning out to be an android app.

I guess the question to ask about FREEZES, are they caused by sideloaded android apps? In other words are unorthodox or potentially non-compliant apps causing these issues or ones offered by Rim in their official appworld??

Actually, after reading that the Android Player would restart on its own after a sufficient "rest" or if you ran a whole slew of regular programs I've now gotten it to work a few times. I just got it locked up again trying to use RockPlayer (seems that it will always lock up my pb). I could not terminate it and if I tried opening another Android app, I would still be stuck in RockPlayer, no swipes could regain control other than closing it. So I just kept opening regular apps, Calendar, Weather, two browsers, the camera, email, battery guru, etc. Sure enough when I went to try opening an Android app, Ski Reports, I got a "startup screen with BB logo, then another BB logo screen. Then the ski app opened. Android Player was "unstuck!"
I don't know if it is a TIME related thing or a memory thing but it Restarts the Android Player. - 03-03-2012, 03:46 PM #11
I have deleted all android apps. Won't touch them again.

I find the force close of the app player with lots of applications running work great.
The android player does freeze every now and then. What I find is that games generally work great....I've sideloaded quite a few applications, and I've had freezing happen to a couple of them. Generally, it's a pretty good experience (and fill some of the apps that I need, but I would much prefer everything to be native (and I think that's RIM's plan in any event). - 03-12-2012, 10:32 AM #15
I downloaded settings.bar and there is a force exit of the app which I found works great. However, a few sideloaded apps don't shut down this way. (WhatsApp for example) these have been removed.

I would prefer that they just made the AP not crash to begin with, but a reset button would be my 2nd choice.
