My Playbook just prompted me for an O/S update to 1.0.8.4985. It was a smaller one than the last one. Anyone know about this update? Security fix?

BBPBOS 1.0.8.4985 was the latest official release and came out last week as I recall. My memory is faulty so it could have been released 2 weeks ago and my mind is just catching up. There is no further update this month.

Yes is true, I installed 5 minutes ago and upgrade of 4 mb for 1.0.8.4985.
I suppose that is a very little fix.
My one is a spanish playbook.

Generally, when you get a small update that has the same version number, it is because you may have deleted some app or other that Rim has deemed "part of the package" and it will come back over and over and it will be via one of these small updates.

BUT this time, a number of people are reporting getting small updates and they say they did not remove/delete/erase any of the apps. So?????

I thought this was a thread to speculate on a new update fo December. I have been following this ritual in cb pb forum since June/July and I find myself longing for this ritual to repeat as we enter a new month

I noticed an update for Facebook earlier this week (Thursday I think)? After that yesterday (Friday) I got this small update too. So, I think the Facebook update was faulty and it got replaced again?

The update is a smart security plug on RIM's part ...
This update is said to prevent the current 'rooting' method.

So what you're trying to say is... don't update if you want to root!
