I have two PlayBooks and recently upgraded one to the latest PB OS. Gmail stopped working with it so I re-added the Gmail account. Instead of one Gmail account listed in Accounts, I now have three, one each for Email, Calendar and Contacts. Interesting, no? Perhaps this change allows for more flexibility?

    PlayBook 1

    - Regularly updated to the latest PB OS, at OS 2.1.0.1526
    - Gmail was setup a long time ago
    - Single Accounts/Gmail for Email, Calendar, Contacts
    Description: Gmail
    Email Address: <email address>
    Password: <password>

    Sync Email: ON
    Sync Contacts: ON
    Sync Calendar: ON

    Playbook 2

    - Updates held back to test PB OS compatibility with apps
    - Recently updated to OS 2.1.0.1526
    - Gmail sync stopped working
    - Deleted Gmail account
    - Add New Account for Gmail
    - Gmail now split into *three* accounts: Gmail Contacts, Gmail Calendar, and Gmail Email

    - Accounts/Gmail Contacts
    Description: Gmail
    Username: <email address>
    Email Address: <email address>
    Password: <password>
    Server Address: google.com
    Sync Interval: 30 minutes

    - Accounts/Gmail Calendar
    Description: Gmail
    Username: <email address>
    Email Address: <email address>
    Password: <password>
    Server Address: www.google.com/calendar/dav/<email address>/events
    Sync Interval: 30 minutes

    - Accounts/Gmail Email
    Description: Gmail
    Display Name: <blank>
    Username: <email address>
    Email Address: <email address>
    Password: <password>
    Server Address: imap.gmail.com
    Port: 993
    Encryption: SSL
    IMAP Path Prefix: <blank>
    SMTP Username: <email address>
    SMTP Server Address: smtp.gmail.com
    SMTP Port: 465
    SMTP Encryption: SSL
    Use push if supported: ON
    Sync Interval: 15 Minutes

Google is moving the free Gmail accounts out of ActiveSync into IMAP (for mail), CalDAV (for calendar) and CardDAV (for contacts). These do indeed show up as 3 separate accounts.

Should users remove the single Gmail setup and re-add for full compatibility? I'm still getting email properly for both PlayBooks, even though the setups are different. (I don't use Calendar or Contacts, so the switch to CalDAV didn't affect me.)

There's no need right now, but once they phase out ActiveSync (June I believe) that will have to be done.
