Can I factory restore back to 2.0 from 2.0.1?
I don't know, but also thinking seriously to go step back to 2.0 for now or until some issues are resolved.
Yeah I do love the fact that the browser has yet to crash on me finally, but i miss the predictive text with the blackberry bridge that I use quite a lot. More than the actual browser itself.
That's a Bridge problem (which RIM has acknowledged that it has a bug and requires an update), not the Playbook OS 2.0.1 problem.
Anyway....someone knows how to revert to version 2.0?
Cause some android apps dont work after upgrade....so for me there are more negatives than positives on the new 2.0.1.
I shouldn't have updated and like everyone here I have my reasons. Next time I'm gonna wait at least 2 weeks before I update.
Ha! :D (ha is too short)
TUTORIAL DOWNGRADE 2.1.0.358 to 2.0.0.7971
Download 2 Softwares :
1. Dingleberry 3.3
2. OS 2.0.0.7971
Make sure development mode is ON
STEPs :
1. Make sure that your OS is 2.1.0.358 and use Dekstop Manager 7.0.0.41 (new update driver from your PB)
2. Unzip dingleberry, then run dingleberry.exe
3. You need to run dinglebery for the first time to make firmware folder appear, then close dingleberry.
4. Open your OS 2.0.0.07971 and unzip it then put in the folder custom
5. Connect your PB to your PC then DM will shown up.
6. Run dingleberry.exe then click on Firmware Button.
7. The firmware main view will shown up and make sure USB Information on the rightside is connected.
8. Click on button on the leftside and choose custom
9. Right button you can choose Core OS or Full OS. I choose Core OS
10. And click the Update button below and wait until it finished (dont break any connection).
11. After finished your PB will restart on goes back to 2.0.0.7971 without any notification for updating to 2.1.0.358. Close your DM.
Irsan, thanks for this. I have never rooted my PlayBook and very cautious to do so. Do you know of any problems you might have after you downgrade? Any malfunctions or anything?
This isn't related to rooting.
If you choose Full OS for downgrade, there will be absolutely no problems. It is exactly the same as if you just updated to 7971. It's same method RIM uses for updates.
CoreOS should be fine too but the in-built apps will be 1.358 still.
Thank you very much Xsacha. I didn't read through the instructions :o; I just saw DingleBerry, and immediately thought I was going to have to root my PB. Another question, since there will be absolutely no problems, a user who downgrades to 0.7971 will still have the option to regularly update to 1.358 if he/she so chooses, right?
You are always extremely helpful.
"CoreOS should be fine too but the in-built apps will be 1.358 still."
Is the android runtime core os component or in build app?
And am i right that i dont loose any data with this (installed apps etc)?
If I downgrade using this method (core OS not full OS), will my apps and media files disappear?
I believe the Android player will go back to the version it was in 0.7971 if you downgrade since it is built in. You shouldn't lose your data. But do a back up... which leads to another question: Is a 1.358 back up compatible with 0.7971?
They should still be there.
All normal, and notification to upgrade to 2.1 dissapear too
I have not tried it and maybe as you follow the steps it will be fine but I'm not sure that I understand Steps 3 and 4. Will these custom folders be obvious when running those steps?
And THANKS for sharing this technique.
the custom folder is in the firmware folder...this curstom folder must contain your firmware files (not firmware folder)
btw. i used core os and full os....and i still have the new android runtime version but "old" os 2.0 version -.-
Anyone has an idea?
So I managed to downgrade 2.0.1 to 2.0.0.7971, but, can we take .6149 and change to a .zip file, extract and copy/paste fingerprint.dat into the manifest folder, i've tried, but cant rezip the .6149 file to actually use it... Anyone try this with success? For anyone tht doesn't have it- FINGERPRINT.DAT.TXT -Contents: LkV_5It3dHahGqhz0L_-cYl0tpRLMJaTGRyY_OX9s04AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
No that won't work. It is signed and by modifying the contents in anyway you break the signature. If that would work, it would have been done weeks ago.
Hope this helps.
I haven't found any bumps with CoreOS downgrading.
anyone was able to downgrade the android runtime engine?
What is the current version of the Android Player on OS 2.0.1.358? What was it in 0.7971?
In the middle of my downgrade.
EDIT: I see from a different thread that the android player versions for OS1.358 and OS0.7971 are 2.0.1.30 and 2.0.0.56 respectively
I just successfully downgraded to OS 2.0.0.7971 and the android player version is 2.0.1.30 (the same as in OS 2.0.1.358)
Cant you downgrade to a lower OS so the you can have root access?
Do you mean downgrade to a rootable OS and have root access so as to extract the Android Player?
