Isn't Pacemaker built with Cascades? Did RIM give them special access to Cascades libraries others don't have access to? Or is there some other reason that no one else is able to use Cascades with PB?

Also, what about BlackBerry-Py/Tart? Last I checked on it it says there is some access to cascades libraries using the Python interpreter built in to the PB.

Cascades is a framework used to build native apps, but native apps can still be made without cascades. See here:

I don't have Pacemaker, but from the screenshots it doesn't look to be using Cascades.

I haven't looked into BlackBerry-Py, but it has recently gone onto my TODO list.

I'm pretty sure it was advertised as being built 100% with Cascades, though I found this thread before I found the thread from when it was released. Didn't feel like wading through all of it. Later I probably will.

Well, it's at least not using any of the Cascades controls in any of the screenshots I've seen, so if it is using Cascades, it'd probably just be the frame of cascades, so to speak. Since the controls wouldn't transition properly to the lower res screen of the playbook, maybe the devs just created their own controls instead of optimizing the existing ones.

Going off the images and video alone, I would have guessed it was pure native though.

The controls are Cascades. Especially the gain ring etc. Take a look at the cascades samples. You'll see exactly the same ring
