Default yahoo video and audio chat works on the playbook ?!?!?!!!!!!

Okay, forgive me if everybody else out there knows this already but me....

But i was playing with the www.imo.im site to use yahoo messenger and found that i could video and audio chat with other yahoo im users on the playbook..... okay, seriously. I was at home on wifi at the time.

Evidently camera AND microphone access IS already available to third parties. I could also click between camera 1 and 2. Found camera 1 is the front facing camera, 2 the back. I was doing this expecting it not to work and voila! It worked.

I dont have a skype account so i couldnt verify skype on imo.im.

but seriously, rim needs to pick up its pace a bit. this is really starting to get on my nerves.
as much as i like rim, theres really not much that i can do with it other than browsing and play some occasional games.
while other tablets can do so much more.
i dont get why rim can stay so complacent even in only getting apps like skype, hulu. and such to work on pb.
shamefull really to own something that is so not supported by many

Someone found a positive and you use it as a reason to whine about skype. If OP had posted on a "where's Skype" thread that "Yahoo works though", how do you think he'd have got on?

i have used Skype on imo.im and Comwave's ePhone video chat with good success between my Playbook and any laptop or computer with a camera and microphone. Switching from PB camera 1 and 2 included. Very useful to stay in touch with family as they travel the world.

This. It works great! Video quality isn't awesome but, hey, beggars can't be choosers. It may have also been the laptop of the person I was chatting with

well, i wished skype worked, as that would really open this device up to a larger market... but yes, yahoo video and audio chat does work on imo.im... which is not only awesome, it kills the rumor that skype cant work due to rim not releasing the tools to access the camera and mic. If yahoo can access them, any third party can.

i havent even tried, I dont really use Skype, but can you use Skype video chat through the browser also from Skype.com?

Edit: Looks like you need a client and you cant use Skype through the browser.

Just about any Flash based chat website works through the PB browser.

Skype video chat works through imo.im. Trick is that both parties have to be using imo.im. If the other person you're talking to is using skype, only audio will work. If they log into their skype account through imo.im audio and video will work.

Does anyone know if the google (Gmail) video chat works?

Using aol.com/av - do you get the howling as it tests the microphone?

Then my sister and I were trying to use it but she's got a small mac-something. She has an AIM account but when I try using the aim, we don't know what to put in it so we connect.

    Ideas?
