Let's face it, week 3 of February is eroding quickly. Barely 5 weeks remaining until March 31, the last day they can release it and say they made Q1. Something has gummed up the works that prevents them with being confident enough to give a release date.

Possible snags are they haven't perfected portrait mode (they were unable to exhibit it at mwc), the flashing of the firmware is still not quite there, and the most likely I think, they are making sure they have enough apps approved and available... I just read an article that said some app devs are having 9 kinds of **** getting their apps approved.

Your frustration is shared by many, just maybe not the all-forgiving near-blindly-loyal fanbois.

so you think the PB is going to be IPAD like "fit n finish" when it is released? sorry to dissapoint. But the reviewers are going to "take it apart". they nitpick these things to death. and you can bet if they find faults in V3 Android they will find numerous faults in V1 QNX.

While you frustration is somewhat understandable, it does not mean there have been any major snags or problems as you routinely suggest. RIM is still within the proclaimed time frame they gave months ago. Maybe you have never noticed but RIM isn't the type of company that gives out release dates until shortly before launch. Only the original Storm was done that way and we all know how that turned out.

The powers that be are simply trying to dot their i's and cross their t's. The PB firmware is really close to being ready for release. There are many Partners out there right now(SAP for instance) who are and have been testing PB's in their environment and use them on a daily basis. And are happy with the latest bundle.

I don't buy that because, no matter what shape the firmware is upon release, it will be incomplete. We were all but told this by RIM reps at shows; when they say "the software will evolve" read that as "will be bugged but get updates to fix it."

I tend to think there is another hangup.... But they still have 5 weeks.

Great! I mean if you can "run a billion dollar business" on that then release must be on the horizon! My savings account is giddy!

Can't say for sure since it isn't out, but I think they are trying to make sure it is as good as it can be while still being within the delivery window they stated in September. The hardware side appears to be very solid, so if they get the software nice an fluid then I think it could be better than an iPod, I mean iPad from a platform perspective. Hopefully RIM won't xoom things up.

You actually don't know that, so please stop talking out of your ***.

You can't call honeycomb "V3" android. Google even called it built "from the ground up" themselves, so it's in the same situation as QNX which was also built from the ground up for the Playbook.

ok. you continue to think an OS that has never before been on a mobile device is going to have IPAD like fit and finish, and I'll continue to try to stay firmly grounded in "reality".

I'm sorry, noone here has even used the phrase "IPAD like fit and finish" except for you, but thank you for ignoring my point about your point making no sense.

the history of All V1 products it to get it "good enough" to get out in the marketplace. PB, at best, will be no different.

Don't try and reason with him, he'll just go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on until you give in and bend to his way of thinking. No matter what it takes for him to do that. He still thinks that RIM should just accept they're dead meat, have them initiate an update that causes all BlackBerry smartphones to explode, killing all the users from lead poisoning in the process

I know the calendar says that Christmas is on December 25th, but I'm getting my hopes up that it will come early this year, like around the end of November, maybe even Black Friday, but that might mess up some shopping plans...

Don't you think its cutting it a little close that 5 weeks out the firmware isn't finished yet? I feel it would be awefully difficult to within 5 weeks to finish the software (whatever that may entail), load it on hundreds of thousands of playbook units, package them (let's not forget that step), load all these units onto tractor trailers and planes on the west coast and transport them to enough locations within the US to be able to honestly qualify for a full release?

    That is reeeeeeeally pushing it.

The FW could be released tomorrow if necessary. But it's not at this moment. When it's time to put FW on devices, hundred & hundreds can be flashed at a time. It won't take very long. As for the firmware, just trying to get it as good as possible.

You're entitled to your opinion. FYI the PlayBook isn't going to fail and from your attitude it's truly going to disappoint you because it's going to be great.

That's one way to put it, but i think they said that not because a buggy OS (wich is still pretty probable), but because they will have new software to USE, not to FIX.

The "O" in WTFO stands for "over". In the military, it is used as a signal, while on a radio, to indicate to the listener that the transmission is complete, and the transmitter, is awaiting a response. I.E. Transmitter:"What time is lunch? Over." Respondent:"At 1400 (2pm) hours. Out"

I solved the "waiting game" problem for all of you. You know when I buy a snow blower it doesn't snow. And if I wash my car it rains for sure. Well yesterday I got tired of the money I had stashed for the PB burning a hole in my pocket and spent it on something else (not a tablet). So you just watch. Now that I'm penniless, RIM will announce in a day or two. The good news is that by the time I save my money back up they'll have the bugs out of it and the 3G version will be out.

If we go by how rim gives release daes remember the torch announcement was roughly a week before the release so if they follow that they have plenty of time for an announcement.

Man forget it.......in my mind, the release date is March 31st. Problem solved. This way, theres only one possible way RIM can disappoint me, and any date before it will just make me happier. Now I can gladly go back to having a normal life and not having the Playbook consume 40% of my thoughts. Ahhhhhh glad thats over
