Why are you wondering ? I am sure there are tens if not a hundred delusional people who would STILL buy a playbook at $ 499 and that's not even including the bb fanbois who are interprating the BB10 will end world hunger and create everlasting peace and the photo app as if RIM had created Time Travel. ( Although somehow in the real world RIM is down 10% i+n two days)

If the PB had some real GPS apps, Invoice Apps, BlueTooth printing apps, More customization of Native Cal app such as day view, portrait view and landscape. Then and only then would I pay the prevailing rate for a compatible tablet.
Don't get me wrong. I really love my PB. $ for $ it best all other 7 inch android tablets. If Apple came out with a 7-8 inch iPad? I would have a hard time keeping PB. Not because iOS is better. Mainly because the app choices are far more developed and visually more mature.
There are some core apps that RIM should be paying developers to produce. $10,000 is a joke for the essential ones.
In the mean time, will continue enjoying my PB. 199.00 was a deal! - 05-02-2012, 12:54 PM #32

@13echo4 What I should have said is that in its original incarnation, no. Currently, I stil don't see the value, even given things like the bridge and native PIM functionality. When RIM lowered the price point to $199, I think that was a realization of its market worth.
Having said that, I paid $399 for the 64 GB version prior to the OS update. I chose to buy it because I still firmly believe that in the near future, BB will get its head out of its *** and deliver the bug fixes and apps it so desperately needs. We have clearance, Clarence.

$499???? yeah, right.
Honestly, If I had that much money to blow on a tablet, not a laptop, but a TABLET, I would pay the extra $$$ and get an iPad.
I paid only $199 for my 32gb Playbook and after using it for a few months, i dont think I would pay any more than that for it.Last edited by shemaree09; 05-02-2012 at 02:02 PM.

I gave $327 for my 64gb PB. I think it was a heck of a deal. I wasn't even going to get one eitber. After reading things on here I just wasn't interested. Other than getting a deal on mine I regret going almost a year before getting mine.
My whole point is the PB for what it does is worth $500. Its very convenient in the hustle of the day. I don't need a laptop in my truck just to jot down some information about my calves. I've been using my BBs and even though they worked until my 9860 I had a tiny screen to work with a xls file. And even though the 9860 is bigger its still small. That PB sure is the right size. I take pictures of all my calves and I take picture of the cattle I sell privately. Yes I did all that with my BBs also but haveing a bigger device to edit the email or graiglist ad with is just so much easier.
Smartphones cost $500 or more. No way a smartphone is worth more than a PB. I disagree that Rims market worth wasn't worth what the price use to be. Apple has done a great job in making the idevices a house hold item. Rim is still tought of as in the office. I know people on the forums think different but there's a whole world out there that don't come to the forums.
Rim shots its self in the foot every time it releases a commercial. People are all the time wanting to finger my PB. They didn't know it could do this or that. Matter of fact a guy that works for me is going friday to buy a 9900 and a PB. He has a wifi only ipad 2 and monday I put some calves on graiglist from inside the barn. H thought I had put wifi in the barn. When I showed him I was bridged and using my BBs interent he was sold. H didn't know about the bridge. Past few days I've read a few people on the forums that said they didn't know about the bridge when they bought tbeirs and they are sol because they don't have BBs.
The PB is a mean little machine. It has some nice hardware, awesome UI. Well worth its money long before the apps. It's one thing for the world to think your a dullard and another to open your mouth and remove all doubt. - 05-02-2012, 03:39 PM #40
I'm never buying any tablet for more then 199 ever again, no tablet is worth it, they're just that high cause it's a newly re-imagined fad and everyone wants one nao, look at TV's now a days, nothing's changed with them except getting better and they're dirt cheap.

Yes and no; $499.00 for a 64 GB LTE version...sans LTE, $399.00 for the same 64 GB.

Those that bought theirs before the price drops did exactly that, picked it over the iPad. I could have bought any tablet I wanted and the PB was the best out there for me, so I picked it over what I think is an overpriced iPad. I also bought a Galaxy Tab over the iPad, previous to my PB.
From a business standpoint, would we buy them at work for that price? Yes. We have estimated that they have paid for themselves within a month. That is a good investment and return on our dollar, as now the time savings and efficiency we have realized in using them is now profit.Last edited by rotorwrench; 05-02-2012 at 05:08 PM.

I bought mine for $599 but I wouldn't spend that again. I don't think any tablet is worth that much. I am a happy PB owner but wouldn't pay that much again.

It's a valid question. The fire sale pricing is losing RIM around $100 on every PB they sell. Not a sustainable business model, and the prices will definitely increase for future tablets. I paid full price for my 16 GB (now my husband's) and $399 for my 64 GB, and I don't regret either purchase. The PlayBook has already saved me its cost in Internet service, which I was able to give up at my business. It has replaced a laptop for me.

The only tablet I would pay $£500 for is the one that isn't out yet.... and that's a windows 8 beastie, all other tablets have limitations that W8 will not have.
I do like my PB though but bought it because of huge bang for buck and build quality - I can buy a decent laptop for $£500 - 05-02-2012, 06:55 PM #49
I paid $600 for my first 32GB PB. My current 64GB cost $400 & is worth it for me. The time savings and ability to have Internet all over the place without extra cost is extremely valuable. Besides having my BlackBerry PIM features bridged is much easier on my tired eyes.

I already stated that I would not pay $499 for any tablet (page 2 of this thread) but I think I should elaborate on that. Laptops are a more mature product. They are targeted to last about 5 years. Studies I have read say tablets last around 2 years. The technology is changing very rapidly and most batteries are built-in non-user replacable. Based on the lenght of use the product should be cheaper. Once the tablet technology matures a bit and people are content to hold on to their tablets longer then paying more for a tablet (more capable / more features) makes more sense. Just my $0.02.
