Default Will BB10 apply to current Playbook?

Will BB10 apply to the current h/w vintage of BB Playbook(PB) or will there be a "lite" version for the existing PB to get people to move to the 4G PB?

The reason I ask is that from what I've recently read that a fully functional USB OTG that will mount a Flash/Thumb drive in the file system probably won't become available until BB10. (Maybe I'm just hopeful on the file system mount even in BB10?)

I've seen threads discussing a potential 4G Playbook and BB10, and am not interested in a 4G Playbook at this time since I currently prefer to do the majority of my internet stuff either on laptop or desktop and WiFi is good enough for me. Hence I'm also not interested in storing my files in the cloud since there is no guarantee that I will have good enough WiFi service to retrieve my files from the cloud when I want them.

We do have a Blackberry phone around home somewhere as well that could probably do bridge if we had a data plan but I can barely stand feature/smart phones at the best of times and would prefer to leave my phone at home. (Probably too many years on call.)

I'm in Canada and currently running OS2.0.1.358 on my PB. I've toyed with rolling back to a previous version of OS to root(using Dingleberry?) my PB to allow USB OTG, but don't want to do that in case I mess up or if USB OTG is already in a future release.

Everything said, I really like my BB Playbook, have had a couple iTouch - 2nd and 4th Gen - before and they were just too toy like to do much with although at the time I thought the video/music on them was great, and now one is broken and the 2nd is just being used as a game device to play Dragonvale. (I understand that the iTouch and PB are two different solutions.) I can't justify $719+ for an 64GB iPad3 when I got my 64GB Playbook for $299+.

My primary uses for my playbook are

    • as a eBook reader, i.e. got Kindle/Kobo and a couple others loaded either from the App store or via side loading,
      music player
      video player
internet access when on holidays and have WiFi access

I've not played with the camera on the PB to any extent since I've invested a bunch of money in digital point and shot cameras and find the format of the point and shot easier to handle.

I've played some of the "free" games and it's not my cup of tea.

So like others in this forum, I'm really hoping to get native USB OTG so that I can move my music/video/eBook library to a flash/thumb drive and carry an extra drive to copy photos off my point and shot via the PB to the flash/thumb drive.

Yes. There have been several comments from RIM and Thor himself on this. Also several threads you might be interested in reading.

We have been told Blackberry 10 will eventually come to the BlackBerry PlayBook though BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet OS 2.1 is slated to be the transition between the present and the future.

Thanks for the info. Now if we can only get RIM to commit to mounting a Flash/Thumb drive in the file system using USB OTG.

I wouldn't be surprised if they created USB OTG. I am pretty sure BB10 will be available for the Pb though. At least, thats the word from RIM as of now.
