Just curious to see what results other people are getting with tethered speed, and what phone / provider you use.

If I use my bridge browser, it hardly works at all and I can't even run a speed test...

If I enable internet tethering, I get around 1.5 mbps down, and 0.35 up.

9700 in Canada on the Rogers network.

EDIT: You can test your connection at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Ran a speettest.net on both Bridged and Tethered on the AT&T network. Both averaged .7Mbps to 1.2Mbps. Up was around .35Mbps as well.

Has anyone tethered on AT&T 'WITHOUT' a tethering data plan?

I'm on AT&T with a corporate BES plan. My company give us BlackBerries and unlimited tethering. I'm running a Torch 9800 with OS version .450 and a PlayBook with OS version 1690.

Nashville (Brentwood), TN outside, 4/5 bars and 3G showing up on display.

Test below for mobile browser: Mobile Speed test
Tests below for tethering and bridge: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

    BB browser: 374kbps
Laptop tethered to my BB via USB: .75 / .53
    PB Tether (using ATT (isp.cingular)): .75 / .26
    PB Bridge: .28 / 0.00

This is pitiful. I don't know if there is anything I can do at all. That's why I wanted to see if the USB tether to my laptop was any different. I think that our IT policy is strictly monitoring all traffic and that surely slows it down.

What really bugs me though, is that when setting up a tether option - there are two ATT choices. I've asked around the forum and never gotten an answer - there's the "broadband" option (which won't work) and the "isp.cingular" option (which does work). I am under the impression that the option I want is faster and the option I can use is EDGE capped.

Who knows. But, if anyone has any insight - I would also add - that the company gave me a 9700 Bold. I bought the 9800 and swapped SIM's and purchased the PB on my own. I've never had any issue since I just input my settings back onto the server and let my IT guy know. I just wonder if there's something slowing me down.

Playbook tethered to Torch 9800 on Telus:

For comparison, Sony Vaio laptop on Rogers rocket stick:

    Upload: 1.24 Mbps
    Download: 1.00 Mbps

How can the Bridge browser be tested on this site if the phone doesn't support flash? I tried to test the bridge and I had a message that I needed flash version 10 or higher.

I'm curious what OS you all are using. I just updated to 576 on my 9800, and i've maxed out at 1.5Mbps down, but tonight (for example) I'm not getting more than 500Kb and my upload is pitiful. The consistency is just not there. The 4xx versions seemed to have similar issues, but I'm not 100% on that (I updated to 570 originally because 450 was so slow on tether). Even the regular browser on the phone is about the same.

Maybe I'll drop down to 448 and see if I can get it back to normal...

I can't try tether because my 9550 won't tether to the Playbook.

    Bridge

    Down .38Mps
    Up .22Mps

    Wifi Hotspot
    Ping 132Ms
    Down 1.40 Mbps
    Up .33mbps

    used speedtest.net

Anyone know if VZW is using a different internet gateway connection for the hotspot? if you don't know it's an additional $20 per month for the privilege of using your own bandwidth your already paying for. 2Gb cap.

Figured I'd give a look see.

I'm running 9650 latest release OS from Verizon.

    Ping
    - 476ms
    Download Speed
    - 0.28 Mbps
    Upload Speed
    - 0.13 Mbps

I'm thinking my speed sucks because it keeps trying to go to the Mid West even though I live in the South East.

    Haven't tried Wi-Fi yet on Speedtest.net

The change is speed is pretty ridiculous . One thing that I noticed is that while using bridge the website shows my isp as RIM where as using tethered it shows as optus.

So I'm assuming that RIM has junk network speeds in Australia? If that's the case I'm rather disappointed.
