- Based on this tool Test Internet Speed - Check The Performance Of Your Connection, I can't get more than 10Mbps on my Playbook while my Mac shows a speed of 20-30 Mbps. My internet connection is supposed to be 24 Mbps. I'm using an Apple Airport Extreme.
Is the PB transfer rate limited to 10 Mbps on Wifi? Does anybody get a higher speed than that?
Thanks.08-30-11 06:43 AMLike 0 - I just got 14MB. I pay for like 18MB but my PC can get anywhere from 25-45MB.
I dont know if the past update has anything to do with it, but I had always got 20-24MB on my PB ever since I owned it. Now all of a sudden, I am getting around 15MB regularly. PC speeds havent changed really.Last edited by Blacklac; 08-30-11 at 08:58 AM.
08-30-11 08:54 AMLike 0 - I found something interesting...
My router is a dual band. PB picks up the 2.4 GHz band by default and not the 5GHz band. My transmission rate gets limited to 11Mbps (don't know why). If I change the setting of my router to force the 5GHz band, then my PB transmission rate becomes the full 24Mbps I'm supposed to have.08-30-11 07:58 PMLike 0 - This will depend on the capability of your wireless access point.
When my PB reports it is connected to my 5Ghz band on 802.11a I can get 27Mbps, identical to my PC that is wired. This is even though my PB says the connection data rate is 24Mbps. My Access Point/router is capable of 802.11n and the PB is too (apparently), so my suspicion (there's another thread on this) is that the PB has a bug in that it reports 802.11a even when on 802.11n.
If you are on 802.11g you will be limited to 11Mbps regardless of your internet connection speed.
Go into the Wi-Fi settings, hit the icon on the bottom left with the "?" in it, in the "Diagnostic Information" drop down pick "Wi-Fi Information". Scroll to the bottom and you will see the Network Type.08-30-11 08:28 PMLike 0 - I Got 5.17 down & 0.67 up on my PB and 5.23 down & 0.72 up on my HP TX1000 (3.5 yr old Original tablet pc)

08-30-11 08:29 PMLike 0 - I think it has a lot to do with your router and whether your Playbook plays nicely with it or not. I was getting crappy speeds from from my Playbook with a Netgear router recently even though many of my PCs were doing just fine. I often get over 20Mbps through my cable modem to my PCs.
I upgraded my router to a new Linksys (Cisco) E3500 and now I can get over 18Mbps consistently on my Playbook.08-30-11 08:44 PMLike 0 - This will depend on the capability of your wireless access point.

On a 802.11a/n connection, I now get above 20 on speedtest.net and just above 12 on my initial link.08-30-11 09:04 PMLike 0
- i wonder if there is a bug in that maybe it connects at n speeds but reports a 802.11g? my pb tested at 20mps but shows it connected as 802.11g. my laptop which also tested at the same speed and is shows a 300mps wifi connection which is 802.11n. The 20mps speed is in line with the service i subscribe to.
if i was truly running 802.11g, i don't think I would get speeds that fast?
