Viewing .asp webpages
So i asked about streaming video on the playbook in another thread and was informed that .asp is not flash.....so my question is, is there a way to view videos in that format? Has anyone had experience with such matters, or knows of a program that would enable my pb to understand those pages.
Is this something that can be solved by rooting?

This is the original thread.
As you can see from the image in my second post, the PB browser doesnt recognize the webpage and is unable to load it.
The site itself is for watching cricket matches, and they have a mobile section so you can access it thru mobile devices. The video streaming works on my OS6 bb 9780 (although the device isn't powerful enough to buffer it properly, but that's besides the point). I figure since it can work on the old BBOS devices, it doesnt make sense for it to not work on the PB browser.
As D_Whatley points out, the format is not flash but a microsoft .net platform.....but that doesnt explain why the PB is incapable of recognizing it when the older BB can do it no problem.
Im just wondering if it's an issue with the PB (ie: RIM overlooking and failing to incorporate certain formats) or does the problem lie with the other side, and the website needs to enable viewing via the PB tablet.
Hope that clarifies my question. - 12-06-2011, 03:18 PM #5
ASP is not a video extension. As others have mentioned, ASP is a website scripting language used to create webpages. ASP is similar to HTML. ASP pages do render properly on the PB.
However, the ASP page may contain content blocks that are not supported on the PB. For example, goto AccuWeather.com - Weather Video Wait and the video will load and play. The video itself is not in a ASP format. The Webpage is written in ASP and it contains an Adobe Flash video. Here's another example that plays a FLV file: FLV streaming sample provided by KFRA
When I go to the site: m.willow.tv/Default_droid.asp on my PB I am presented with a Willow TV login in page. I don't have an account so I can't test any further.
Maybe the website wasn't available or there were problems with your internet connecrtion? - 12-07-2011, 12:04 AM
