I have been converting my DVDs using DVD Catalyst and in general, it works great for viewing movies on my PB. However, I want to create more high quality versions for visually interesting movies (e.g., Tron Legacy). The resulting file size is greater than 2GB and my PB will not even show it in the Video section after I copy it over so obviously I cannot even play it. Using a file viewer on my PB, I still do not see the movie in the Video directory. When my PB is connected to my PC and using Windows Explorer, I can see the file and the transfer takes several minutes so I know it is no the PB. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, is there a way to resolve it? Thanks.

This is just a guess, as I am having trouble ripping a DVD, I am no video master, to be sure. Could it be a hidden file somehow? R click on it and check the properties from your PC. But that's ll I got. Sorry!

    Good luck!
    Later,

There is a thread I created on the fact that sometimes videos disappear on the pb but show up in the video app. But if yours is not playing you are probably not picking a format that the pb uses. I have at least one video of two gigs.

There is something wrong with the api for file info.

After further consultation with DVD Catalyst, they recommended a setting that now works great. Even files greater than 2GB play well with HD quality.

    Thanks to all.

I have several large files, and it appears that 4GB is the limit in size. I haven't done extensive testing, but when I put a 5GB movie on it couldn't play the last 1/5 of the movie and even retransferring wouldn't help, but bringing it down to 2.5GB it played perfectly.

I take HD movies off my Tivo all the time and down convert to 720p mp4 and aac 2 channel audio. Never had any problems. A 3.5 hour movie from EpixHD copied just fine. I throttle back the bitrate to 1500 kbps and the file sizes are very manageable.

Most 720p HD movie torrents with DTS audio are under 5 GB. A DVD rip should be no more than 700 MB.

My suggestion would be to encode to mp4 with Ac3 audio. Dial down the resolution and bit rate. On a 7 inch screen you aren't going to notice the difference.

I have full movies that will fit onto a CD (700 MB) and the video quality is fine on a 21" monitor.

pb does very well with hd video only draw backs are the supported audio codecs.. I mainly use my pb as an entertainment device so i have quite a few hd movies on it. I have uploaded many videos over 5gb to my playbook with out issue. eg. 8.3Gb Wmv of Don't mess with the Zohan at 1080p (1920x1040) datarate: 14640kbps, 23fps. Audio 640kbps, 6 channels, 48khz sample rate. 5.1dts (there must have been a stereo channel in there because the playbook played the audio). there were no frame rate drops or slow downs while playing said video even in the background.

Most of the movies or tv shows I rip are at least 720p mkv format but i use XenonMkv which makes the mkv audio track compatible with the playbook.

The recommendations were to use the Playbook HQ1 720 setting. As my PC's DVD player is non-BluRay, this seems to be giving me the best quality picture and it runs fine.

No the playbook supports higher sizes than 4GB. I have "THE Mechanic" on my PB in 1080P, file size of 5 GB

I Had Harry potter 1080P before, file size 8GB as well

    Both played fine

I tried a few 720p mp4 files around 4-6GB and they played fine too. Apparently there is no size limit.

I have the same problem, made some tests.

The original video file is mkv+h264+dts, about 4.2GB, ~1hour duration, 1280x720.

    1) converted it to mp4+h264+aac, about 2.4GB, PB recognizes it but can't play it
1.1) converted only 2 mins, PB recognizes it and plays it without problem

    2) converted it to avi+xvid/divx+mp3, about 2.7/3.1GB, PB recognizes it, displays duration only 20mins, but, it continues playing when reaching end of processing bar ...
2.1) converted only 2 mins, no problem at all.

    3) converted it wmv+wmv2+wmv2, about 4GB, PB recongizes it but can't play it.
    3.1) converted only 2 mins, can't play.

It looks like PB does have video size limition (can't exceed 2GB?) on most of formats.

However I do have some 4-5GB WMV files (VC-1/WMV3), PB has no problem with these files at all.

    I am bit lost here...

    attach a mp4+h264+aac video info

    My largest video is:

    05/15/2011 09:12 PM 2,263,039,671 Dolomites_June_July_2009.mp4
Gspot reports: mp4a: MPEG-4 AAC LC

It plays fine and I actually watched the whole thing on hdmi to tv. I ripped it from a dvd I had created using a Magix program.
