So I was searching around Futureshop/Bestbuy for PB's Travel Charger (the one that comes with PB) and even Staples and none of them have it in stock in Downtown Toronto, but on my way out, I saw the Touchpad charger for 14.99. Meh, if it doesn't work I'll return.
Specification says 5.3V, 2A. I don't see it not working. The Playbook one is 1.7A if I remember correctly.
So for the price... why not? But does it damages the PB? I mean sure the rapid charger is rated at around 3amps, but its got a special port to deliver such power.
USB... um.. I don't know. Is it okay? I'm charging 9700's, 9900's and PB's with this cheap charger xD!
Nice info.
Just curious whether the microUSB output able to sustain the heavy 2A?
PB got the proprietary port for rapid (2A) and limit the microUSB by 1.7A. (CMIIW)
Nice steal for a $14.99!
One PB owner has reported using his Asus Transformer USB charger to charge the PlayBook in only about 70 minutes. I still find it hard to believe, and I don't think he owns Battery Guru so he could provide real data to show what it's doing, but by my calculations it would have to be charging at something like 15W (over 3A maybe) in order to do that.
I suspect if it's really achieving that charging speed, something is on the verge of being destroyed. I'd say "don't try this at home", but if you've got such a charger and are willing to give it a shot, please share your results, even if it's just so we can laugh at you.
