I've been using Tunebite for about a month now and can't really complain. Rips DVD's easily and takes off DRM no problem.

Seeing how most movies are shot in widescreen anymore, does anyone who uses this software know a way to customize output settings to maximize the 7" screen on the PB without corrupting the video file?

    Thanks

Just plug in a format that matches the play book. I setup a custom conversion format and use 1024x600 for the resolution.

Will 1024x600 fill the screen? I was gonna go by the wallpaper and do 1024x1024.

I would guess you can only play with dimensions so much before you distort the film and have wide/fat characters or tall/thin ones! You may have to settle for black bars or less than full screen. I don't know "film" dimensions but clearly if the image is really 1024x500 (just any numbers) and you modify it to stretch to 1024x600, you will be lengthening in the up/down (vertical) dimension and distort the image.

It will work fine at 1024x600, You will have black bars on the top or bottom but that is the way the movie was filmed, you cant do anything about that. The ratio of height to width should stay the same so you wont distort the picture. Find out the ratio of your movie and use the ratio as close to the PB 1024x600 as you can.
So if the ratio of your movie is 2.35:1 and you want it to fill the PB screen you would use 600 for the height and (600 x 2.35) 1410 for the settings in Tunebite. Be careful how big you make it because your computer may not have enough power to do all of that and the sound will get out of sync with the movie. You may also end up cutting off the side of the movie because it wont fit thats why most people just use the width and the height ends up being whatever it ends up being.
