Trouble with Desktop Manager and PB
When I connect my PB to my PC, the desktop manager reports sw version 0.0 and nothing seems to work.
Anybody else having trouble like this?
All I wanted to do was update some of the videos I store on my device. Can't talk to it at all, PB doesn't appear as a disk drive...
Anybody else having this trouble?
Latest PB software, uninstalled and reinstalled desktop manager, rebooted, etc...
Help!
Thanks,

Tons of threads on this issue.... search is your friend...
This thread is right above yours.
Desktop Manager won't install - 04-28-2012, 12:50 AM

Ah yes, search is my friend... but it came up empty this time.
The thread you are referring to is for INSTALLING desktop manager.
I searched and searched, found 40 pages of "2.0.xxx is so awesome" or "installing now..."
Was hoping for some specific help on this. I have had excellent luck with my PB and videos, been using it since the day it was released. But now it seems that desktop manager and this version of the OS are not compatible, at least in my installation.
I'm not exactly a newbee at this PB thingy...
Thanks,

Thank you for the clarification. Try the Desktop Manager beta.

Thanks, jafobabe. I'll load it up and see what happens.
Is this a 2.0.1.358 thing? I was working fine the last time I ran desktop manager, but that was some weeks ago. - 04-28-2012, 01:12 AM #6
Seems to be. Others have had luck with the beta, and then there are those that still have issues... reminds me of a crapshoot. I haven't had any problems with mine, I have 7.0 something running it both on xp and a win7 laptops.

I don't think so, as it would be more widespread. It appears the majority have had no issues with DM and 2.0.1.358. But I'm not sure what it is. We now have three PBs here at home and tonight I connected and backed up all three, mainly to show my daughter how. Not one hiccup amongst the bunch. The amount of data and media backed up was 3.5g, 2.9g and mine was 7.8g. Average time to backup was 11min for two and 18min for mine.
I've backed up and done syncing three times since the update, no issues. What will be the telling tale will be at work. We are scheduled to update all seven PBs next week and it will be interesting to see how that and DM connections come out. At work they don't do OTA updates, all are done via DM. FWIW, at home our Windows is Vista, at work it's XP Pro and Windows 7.Last edited by rotorwrench; 04-28-2012 at 01:32 AM.
There are trolls in BlackBerry clothing among us. Report, ignore and never reply to obvious troll posts, they will die without responses from you. - 04-28-2012, 07:55 AM

Yeah, I don't know what the deal is rotorwrench.
I have it running on my work machine (XP) but have not connected the PB to it in a while. I use that for my 9930 only.
Will have to give it a try. - 04-28-2012, 01:01 PM

No luck with Beta either.
Guess I'm going to do a security wipe and try that.
This is really stupid, all I wanted to do was shuffle some of my videos around.
Going to have to use my iPad until I get this figured out.
Attaching a screen shot to show my software version of 0.0. Ugh. - 04-28-2012, 04:34 PM #11
I got this error today and it wiped my PB. Everything gone and sounds seems to be screwed up. Everything is distorted. So not happy right now.

Very interesting, Scotter. Thanks for that insight.
I'm running W7 64 SP1 and I thought I gave it all enough time.
No matter now, a security wipe and desktop manager beta seems to have pushed me through all this. Copying my precious videos now...
What a PITA. Come on, RIM. You didn't expect people to be using W7 64 bit? Wow. - 04-28-2012, 05:58 PM #13
I just upgraded my PC today and went from XP Pro to W7 64 bit....having read all the threads about people have issues with their BlackBerry devices connecting to DM on W7 I was a tad nervous for sure. I downloaded DM from the BlackBerry web site and I had no issues connecting and backing up my BB 9700, BB 9900, and my 64 GB PlayBook.

Must be something brittle about my PB's state. The security wipe (and corresponding PITA to load up all my old apps and stuff...) took care of it.
Glad you had no issues, Bob80220.
