Wow, where did all the memory go? I don't have any programs that are opened. I closed all of them.

Does this mean that the OS is actually taking up more than 500 MB of RAM ?

the PB will boot with under 550 free pretty much, i noticed that i was down to 110 after a couple browser tabs, video player and weather open. NFS looks like it uses around 250 also.

I'm sure as the updates come the memory management will get better

I have usually hovered around 450 free. I hope future updates improve it but I have to admit I haven't noticed any performance drops.

i only noticed lags after i got it down to 110 and then opened up tetris of all things. i went back to the browser and it was scrolling slower with more checkboarding than before i opened tetris
