Took PB back within 2 days
Decided to go over to the PB because I needed a new experience in a mobile device. What I mean by new experience is that I didn't want the garbage Honeycomb and definitley didn't want the simplistic IOS tablet. What I found with the PB was that the OS is gorgeous just as the Touchpad looks to be, however, the tablet lacked the important things such as email, calendar, tasks manager. The PB's cameras were awesome but RIM biggest downfall on this one is that they did put enough into getting developers out to make important applications. Also after only an estimated 3 hours of playing time out of 2 says the screen had a dead pixel line right down the middle of the screen. This was HORRIBLE!!! No way I would pay 500 bucks for something like that and the way it ran hot when you pushed it heavily. The battery drained quick as well. The PB could have been a hit!!

Let me start by saying I own all kind of devices and am currently using an iPhone4 as my daily driver(personal) & iPad2(personal). I also use an unnamed BlackBerry HandHeld device & the PlayBook. I know what the other side of the fence looks like.
As for the PB, it's brand new. It's a completely new Platform. The original iPhone didn't have any applications. It took time. Same with the PlayBook. As for native email, calendar, etc well it's coming. However if you would have done any amount of research you would have known it was currently lacking these options but that they're coming in a future software update.
As for the dead pixel, well this happens to ALL manufacturers. Apple, Samsung, Motorola, etc etc etc. It comes with mass production and isn't limited to any specific manufacturer. Let's not try and single out the PlayBook.
As for the battery, there are many reviews that say the battery is just as good as the iPad2 and others. Some reviews say different. Battery life varies but it's definitely comparable to other devices.
Maybe the PlayBook just isn't for you. But it's definitely a solid device that will continue to get better.Thanked by 14:+ Show/Hide list of the thanked -

The lack of apps was probably due to the fact there's no ndk. And Rim probably worked with adobe in getting flash on their OS and ignored the developers out there.

Yes guys I have an HTC Evo and wanted something brand new other than swipe left and swipe right. The PB was gorgeous absolutely gorgeous but it just lacked in so many areas. Also RIM needs to find out a way to get more 0 cost applications in their market. Mostly all the apps that were few cost money this is not the case with Android. I really liked the PB for those two days but the two major downfalls really drove me to take it back. RIM should have not made the PB dependent on a blackberry that was silly

CX, the deal pixel issues are a bit numerous when taking into consideration the ration of people we saw on here report them in relation to the community size on this forum. There's no telling how many others in the public domain don't know what a dead pixel is or care to exchange it. What's with the **** poor QC of these screens? Why is it that RIM can't ever once have good QC on hardware? We were promissed a professional tablet, we got Storm1 quality in my opinion. RIM always cuts corners somewhere and I think it's easy to see that when you consider the price of the parts the PB costs to make. I'm sorry, but I view the PB as another Blackberry that's designed to be made on the cheap and sold for much more. I've been to two local stores that have PBs on demo display and both of them have pixel issues. I don't think it's as "limited" as you think. Something tells me RIM got the "bad run" screens from their supplier because they didn't want to pay top dollar for them.

The reason dead pixels are such an issue right now is because the PlayBook is not even a week old and this is of course, a Blackberry site. Search any site for other manufacturers and you'll find the same thing, especially after a product launch when there's a lot of chatter about the latest gadget.
Most all items with displays I own have a dead pixel policy in their documentation. Some of them don't even consider it a defect unless it has more than a certain number. - 04-25-2011, 12:40 AM #9
It's common to mass-produced devices. If RIM cheaped out, what did Apple do? Of course, Apple could do no wrong, to some people...

If you have a dead pixel just return the device and get a new one. Not hard. If Best Buy pulls the needs 3 dead pixel bull**** just return it go get it somewhere else.

Which was a huge mistake because an iPad will work just as well for a blackberry owner as it will for an iPhone owner. It's actually a good hedge against limitations in the BB email client (full EAS and IMAP support).
In fact, since the PB doesn't support attachments, the iPad works better for BB owners than the PB (if email is a priority). - 04-25-2011, 03:00 PM #177.1.0.391-Finally have mobile hot spot. Welcome to 2010 RIMM

Having lived through the Storm debacle from day one I sure hope not! I'm not sure I have the patience to go through the process of getting something that could have been a hit off the ground and living thorough minor improvements over an extended period!
This is really starting out as a poor experience. Trying to use this on a Business trip and I'm not having much success at Bridge or wifi connections.... Seriously flawed at launch. New OS or not, this wasn't ready!

QNX "was" supposed to change that. Fact is (I think) that RIM will be using QNX as the "core/kernel" layer of their OS and that this is what they'll use to implement once it gets to the smartphone devices. For obvious reasons, the old infrastructure wasn't stable enough for them, but they also wanted to maintain their existing OS build structure with Java, etc. Because of this, I don't see them advancing their OS that much even under the new QNX platform. RIM needed something new and fresh. Right now, QNX is not providing RIM with this viewpoint from its customers. The PB is also not really marveling the public consumer base either.
As I and many other have said before... RIM's devices are utilitarian. They are a knife... they are like all the other knives out there. Nothing special. Until they can figure out how to make something special, they'll trend much the same way they are now. Local Best Buy has sold 3 PBs in a week worth of sales and got one of those back on return. The local Office Depot has sold zero. - 04-25-2011, 04:19 PM #20
And the FS downtown Toronto has sold over 200 of them...whats your point? You seem to be one of those people who believe that the PlayBook has to outsell the iPad to be successful.
You also should stop speculating on the future of the qnx os as you really dont have a clue.Thanked by 2:leo1055 (04-25-2011), SnoozerBold (04-26-2011)

Playbook is clearly exposing RIM as a one-trick pony with an aging set of legs. Rim invented truncated push email. They milked that market and proudly refused to innovate or change. If the iphone wasnt invemted the bb would still look like 5 years ago and they wouldnt be in the tablet business.
Now they are executing a hail mary by pretending to be a computer software and operating system implementor. Their incompetance is on full display with this release. - 04-25-2011, 05:23 PM #22
it will all come out soon, be patient, give me the playbook i will appreciate it.

Surpisiny, I just returned mine a couple minutes ago. I bought it opening day & used it continuously till today. I just couldn't justify keeping something that cost almost $600 when the browser was the thing I used it the most for. I enjoy my iPod touch way more than the playbook. Honestly, the lack of quality apps kill the pb for me. The browser was good, but that's about it

Go Sox! Loved the sweep! Get rid of Dice-K my @ss!
Ok, I digress... Everything has a purpose... don't be a hater... enjoy what you have and stop looking on the other side of the fence. Choose what's best for you. I use my iTouch for all the mindless apps and games that kill off all the hours and brain cells while on a long ride or waiting in line... but if i'm on the toilet browsing the net for a leg numbing amount of time, the PB rocks
As for reading, my e-reader is still best... works on the brightest of days without glare!
If you do a lot of corp. based emails, the PB is key... if you're a social butterfly, the iPad is amazing... I don't see ONE true tablet having it all coming any time soon... as for the apps, how many do you really need? It's not the SIZE that matters right??? LOL It's how you use it! - 04-25-2011, 06:17 PM #25Another Ramblin' Rehab Reject! http://bit.ly/dXrNpz
