I think I can speak for those of us who are interested in the PlayBook and say that I'm glad there's the kind of coverage that there is. It's finally been officially announced and the release date is (fairly) certain, we all want to hear every new detail as it emerges, as painfully slow as it is. And we want it before everybody else gets it, because after all, isn't that why we're here?? And as has been mentioned here already, this device with QNX is the first step RIM is taking towards giving BB phones the kick in the arse that everyone has been screaming about. Sure they're a year away, but a lot of what's developing now for the PlayBook is laying the groundwork for will end up in future phones. Y'all should be excited about that!
If you're excited about that, let me hear a he## yeah!

- Same boat as I wish there was more info on 6.1 and the new phones for 2011...I have no need for a PB or any Tablet for that matter.
I do understand you write what you are given and the PB is finally around the corner.
I hope it does well for those who need it.

The tablet form factor has been around for a long time. Full Window, Linux, etc devices.
Everyone thought Apple was going out with a full use tablet only to find out that it was just a larger Ipod Touch.
Now the media has forgotten and thought Apple started it all and thinking Hospitals and the like will be going to the "NEW" Tablet devices even though they are using Motion Computing and Tablet Kiosk like devices.
And it doesn't matter who is last or first to the game. It only matters what is better or who can carve out a nice piece of the pie for themselves.03-30-11 03:58 PMLike 0 -
No searching.03-30-11 04:02 PMLike 0 - The fact of the matter is that there is nothing else Blackberry related to talk about... the well has dried up again and the PlayBook is getting stale. Things will surge once it releases but even still, need some fresh news, badly.03-30-11 05:52 PMLike 0
- Hey All,
YEP... We know there is going to be a LOT of BlackBerry PlayBook talk happening on the blogs, and we are well aware that for some of you (those not getting the PlayBook, who just got phones, etc.) that it's going to get real old quick.
Couple things on this:
a) We're not going to be writing any less about phones... so whereas without the PlayBook we'd maybe be doing 5 to 8 posts a day, with playbook content we'll be likely doing 9 to 15 posts per day. So it's more in total... not less about phones.
b) To hopefully hit phone users too, we've already increased the # of posts showing on the homepage from the last 10 stories to the last 15 stories. That way with the mix of content, you should still be able to find relevant phone stories for you on the homepage. Whereas with 10 you might miss a couple phone stories due to the added PlayBook content.
c) I've told all our writers to NOT FORGET ABOUT PHONES. We'lll still have phone content coming. Whenever there is new phone news, we'll talk about it. Unfortunately, we really haven't been getting that much new info on 6.1, etc. yet. I'm SURE that'll change at BlackBerry World, which is only a month away.
d) It might take a little while to implement, but one of the things I'll want to do over the next little while is be able to allow readers to quickly sort Phone News from PlayBook News. I think the homepage will always show all stories, but maybe with one click you'll be able to see just phone news and/or tablet news. Kind of like right now if you click the News tab you see just the news stories and not our non-news content.
Sound ok???? Anybody who's been around CrackBerry knows we always go nuts on the latest device. At the moment that's the PlayBook. Hopefully soon it'll be some 2011 BBs. In the end, we cover everything, and that's also why you have the forums here! To complain about our homepage content and talk about the things we miss.
Sound good?

Personally, I see a lot of possiblity in a playbook/vehicle and playbook/home controller relationship .... once QNX is uniform that is. Get a few nice deals with car manufactures and home electronics companies and I see something unique there that RIM can capitalize on and differentiate from the tablet flood. Especially given that they are trying to market the fact that smaller is better... I can definitely see a rational for it in these environments.
Same goes for businesses like hospitals, law enforcement, EMS, government systems, etc... But somehow, I get the feeling that they aren't going to focus on things like this and just focus on bring out an "overall" tablet to market and in essence just copy whatever is out there. BIG MISTAKE, especially when you devote upward of a year on its developement and put mobile phones in the closet in the process!
I hope I'm wrong! And if they want to hire me, I can give em a few ideas! lolLast edited by RicanMedic78; 03-31-11 at 02:36 AM.
03-31-11 01:43 AMLike 0 - I'm with the rest in saying it's getting old bringing up the Crackberry website only to find more Playbook talk.
But, on the other hand, CrackBerry reports what is available to report about. Right now the Playbook is all RIM has to talk about. If Crackberry didn't talk about this they wouldn't have anything new to post to the main page.
Hopefully once the Playbook is released we will start seeing more handset talk.03-31-11 04:53 AMLike 0 - 03-31-11 08:50 AMLike 0
- I feel like detaching myself from CB until there is something else out there to discuss other than the PB. All this rambling about the PB is getting tiresome and boring really quickly. I get it......it's cool and all. But enough already.04-16-11 09:31 AMLike 0
- again, it is not that i am not excited for RIM to fight against apple and microsoft, but this is a product that may not reach 5% of the market, kind of how i feel about all the iphone apps and android apps. there are many more bb users than the others. just feel left out in the cold while we wait for the next tidal trend to hit and then vanish.04-16-11 11:03 AMLike 0
