Hi all,

Like many of you, it is too painful to relegate the PlayBook to chips for the wood pile so I have been curious as to drastic steps: could we replace the internals of a PlayBook with a Dev Alpha or Z-Series device internals?

The Dev Alpha B is slim on hardware but still supports OS 10.3.1. Alternately, a Z10 or Z30 would be a great step forward, hardware-wise.

It may not be a new, or even unique, idea but can any of our brighter members give details on why it would just not work, outright, before we start soldering?

Isn't the dev b just a Z10?

I think it was the dev a that was basically a mini PlayBook. That one might be a little more possible.

If you really could just connect the screen and digitizer to a PlayBook screen and digitizer, then yeah, that would be amazing.

I'm thinking this wouldn't make it past the security check at boot because it would show odd hardware. I may be wrong as I don't know all the details to the security check but if it's finding hardware It isn't expecting wouldn't it fail the check and refuse to run?

I doubt it would work with a dev Alpha but right before that there was a Z10 predecessor that looks like a Mini PB. It may work.. "Colt" I think it was called.
